Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson defended her Neighborhood Safe Zone initiative at a press conference in city hall Thursday, citing citations and arrests made in the latest effort.
According to the mayor, city police seized one handgun and made several arrests for drug possession offenses, along with four arrests for attempting to escape police in the Hall Manor neighborhood on South 15th Street this past week.
"We are seeing a serious drop in our violent crimes, particularly of 0.8 percent in the last few months in these target areas," Thompson said. "These 0.8 percent reductions in violent crimes are the result of the neighborhood safe zones."

Queen Linda Thompson is a product of Harrisburg School District and Howard University. Apparently they do not teach mathematics at either. BTW, she passes for what is intelligent in Harrisburg where there is a 46% dropout rate at Harrisburg High, while spending $18k per student per year.
If that doesn't piss you off, you need to know that your federal tax dollars, and if you live in PA, your state tax dollars provide the majority of funding to a failed school system for a majority of minorities that will suck at the teat of government for the rest of their lives.
And they don't even say, "Thank you"
46%? Holy Cow Batman...
Man, if they keep at it, they may get to 1.0% in the first year. Wow!
You could get these kind of numbers just changing from Raisin Bran to Cheerios...
A .08% reduction in violent crime. Wow, I’m impressed. That’s almost 1 percent.
Wow! You could be the Valedictorian at Harrisburg High if you graduated from there. And more than likely get a free ride to Howard Univ.

Let’s see....from 2 to 3 percent of the good people (aka potential victims of violent crime) move out of the safe zone during this time and a 0.8 percent in violent crime is touted as impressive.
Well, as for me, count me among the unimpressed.
Who is it exactly that is SAFE in the SAFE zones? The good guys or is it the bad guys?
I always enjoy the publication of crime stats, because they are so easy to spin and manipulate. If a chief of police finds out there will be a big pot of state and federal money available for seatbelt compliance programs, he will issue his officers orders to go zero tolerance and place a huge emphasis on seat belt enforcement. Needless to say, he'll get a spike in seatbelt violations and report an epidemic increase to justify getting the money.
Similarly, if the FBI releases its annual report for a community and the crime stats have dropped, the local popo will issue a press release attributing the drop (no matter how small) to bold new police initiatives, aggressive policing, greater cooperation between police and the community, etc.
If, on the other hand, there is an increase in crime stats, it will be attributed to socio-economic factors, or possibly lack of funding.
