The Boy Scouts’ new policy allowing openly gay members will fall to aggressive gay rights activists if not first to its own incoherence.
On May 23, delegates representing the Boy Scouts of America voted to adopt a change in their membership policies. For many years, the Scouts held that homosexual activity was inconsistent with the spirit of scouting and that therefore openly gay people could not be admitted to the organization. This will no longer be the case.
The change the delegates voted for is a compromise of sorts. For the last decade and a half, liberal activists have sought a complete repudiation of the ban. During the same period traditionalists have sought to retain it. The new policy appears to split the difference: It permits openly homosexual boys to be members of the Scouts, but it does not allow openly homosexual men to be Scout leaders.
Whatever else one thinks about the new policy, this much is certain: It can’t last. No doubt many of the delegates thought they would be buying peace and quiet by enacting this compromise, but they are bound to be disappointed.

Absolutely correct, as evidenced by the atheists jumping all over the Scouts about five minutes after they caved to the gays. Now that they gave in on one thing, critics will be oozing out of the woodwork demanding concessions to *them.*
They will. I have always maintained the instant gay Scout Leaders are allowed (hasn't happened yet), rational parents everywhere are going to yank their kids out of Scouts. They can't leave them in and refuse to send them camping alone with predators because you can't get past Tenderfoot without some camping experience.

It would have been better to disband than to compromise with these activists. Now they have opened a door that will not be closed again and they have compromised a wholesome institution to sexual obsession and vacancy.

I have been a Scouter for years. I have personally been involved in 'saving' at risk boys through Scouting. I have 2 Eagles.
This leadership must be replaced.
It’s like the BSA’s board has been asleep during the current culture wars if they thought this change would be enough for those who demanded the inclusion of gays.

So what are you saying...you still support them if the leadership changes??
I think what FatherofFive was implying is that this leadership will NEVER change unless the organization completely implodes. Then, it can be rebuilt and re-occupied by leaders who uphold scouting principles.
If there is anything I have learned over the years is that you can not compromise with the left.
Regardless of what you give up, they just return and ask for more.
Now that they have forced the Boy Scouts to accept openly homosexual scouts (since if a boy did not reveal they were homosexual they would be permitted to join), the next battle is for openly homosexuals Scout leaders. I have no doubt that there are already homosexual scout leaders, married and with children to provide them with cover but for now they need to stay in the closet. This will soon change.
This compromise gains them nothing from the left, and yet loses support from their base.
The really ironic thing is once homosexual do become active in scouting and they begin to molest boys, the left will stand on the side line cheering as the victims sue the Boy Scouts for not protecting them.
The Boy Scouts are not dead yet but are on the path that will lead to their demise.
On a side note, just fifty years ago homosexuality was considered a mental disease and homosexual acts were illegal in many places. They have made great progress over the last fifty years but will they be able to hold on to that progress?
In the long history of mankind, there have been some societies that have tolerated homosexuals, but I can not think of any that have elevated homosexuals to the god like status those on the left seem to be doing today.
The full weight and power of the state can suppress opposition, but nothing can force a person to change their core beliefs.
I will be willing to state that sometime in the future there will come a terrible backlash that will result in a loss of all their gains, and perhaps even more.
The only question is what will trigger this backlash, and will will it occur.
