Anna Maria Chávez, CEO of Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA), offers this pithy saying as her favorite quote. In order to figure out who the Girl Scouts are, I suppose we must follow Ms. Chávez’ logic and look at the organizations that GSUSA associates with.

A good place to start would be the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). WAGGGS has member organizations across the globe, the largest of which is GSUSA, contributing approximately a quarter of the ten million members that belong to WAGGGS. GSUSA is a co-founder of WAGGGS and one of WAGGGS’ largest financial supporters, paying over $1 million each year in membership fees which are triggered by each girl and adult member’s annual GSUSA registration.

The global organization is a well-known advocate for sexual and reproductive rights, including abortion, for youth, and claims to speak for all of its 10 million members.

A Houston Chronicle editorial countered the conservative “grumblings” by saying, “It’s startling to realize that an event as wholesomely routine as the mayor’s welcoming a Girl Scout convention to town could ever count as an act of bravery. But it does – and it’s the kind of brave inclusiveness that the Girl Scouts have always stood for.”

WAGGGS is dominated by European liberals and agenda-driven 3rd worlders,and yes GSUSA is a member of the World Scout Organziation along with 144+ other countires that have Girl Scouts and Guides

But then, so is the uber liberal World Organization of Scouting, of which BSUSA is a member

It is hypocritical to say that GSUSA is just as radical as WAGGGS, because then we would have to say USA is just as radical as the UN, to which we belong and to which we send a great deal of money and even the lives of our soldiers

When you cozy up to the UN for any youth programs ... look out

Both the Baden-Powells must be rolling in their graves over the corruption (largely by wealthy liberal Euro-crats) of their fine ideals for Scouting/Guiding

the fuss was that many years ago the Girl Scouts started baking cookies to send to troops overseas in WW1

Then after WW1 they kept baking cookies to sell to support their troop activities. Back then girls baking cookies was considered a useful domestic skill and a harmless and even enjoyable treat people could buy to teach the girls the value of work and skills in setting goals

In WW2 cookies went n hiatus due to butter, sugar and flour rationing, but then many GS helped in Red Cross and other paramilitary organizations, bond drives etc

after WW2 cookies returned but as a commercial bakery product as more women now were working, and out of the home and kitchen

and it continued from there

The girls in our Council alone have sent tens of thousands of boxes of GS cookies to troops overseas and the USO cupboard at BWI airport is full of GS cookies given to troops and families passing through...all purchased with money donated to and by mostly 7-11 yr old girls while they are selling cookies

We have yet to hear of a troop who spit at them, called them names or refused a box of donated cookies because of the national CEO’s presence at conferences attended by “planned parenthood”

and BTW National gets no proceeds from cookie sales, except from the bakery that pays royalties for the logo and name. All cookie money goes to local Councils and troops and virtually none have any dealing with Planned Parenthood. I know neither ours nor the 2 neighboring Councils do

Where does my money go when I buy Girl Scout Cookies?
With every purchase, approximately 70% of the proceeds stays in the local Girl Scout council and with troops to provide a portion of the resources needed to support Girl Scouting in that area, including the portion that goes directly to the group selling the cookies. The balance goes to the baker to pay for the cookies.

Does any of the money from cookie sales go to Girl Scouts of the USA (the national Girl Scouts organization)?
Girl Scouts of the USA is paid a royalty for use of the licensed trademarks by its licensed bakers based on gross annual sales volume. Girl Scout councils do not provide any portion of their cookie revenue to Girl Scouts of the USA, and no other revenue from cookie sales goes to Girl Scouts of the USA. Girl Scouts of the USA provides contractual services and approves all program, marketing, and sales materials developed by the bakers. GSUSA also provides coordination and training for national media, safety standards for girls and volunteers, our world-renowned girl-leadership program, and full support during cookie season.

cookie money goes to the bakers and to GS Councils and Troops. For a $4 box of cookies my troop makes about $.75 because the girls earned their way up to top level incentives. When someone donates money at a cookie booth, they use it to buy extra boxes of cookies and donate them to First Responders in our community - their decision

We have also “bought” cookies (or “biscuits”) by making donations to Girl Scouts and Guides in New Jersey, New Zealand and Japan after natural disasters disrupted their cookie sales..looks like we’ll be buying cookies from Councils in Oklahoma this year
