I don’t think this has anything to do with CSPAN choosing not to broadcast the hearing. According to the report here, the House Ways and Means Committee (not Issa’s oversight committee) will conduct interviews “behind closed doors.”:

I’m not sure where the “breaking news” about Tea Party people testifying comes from since the link is just to the CSPAN video library, which is almost completely blank when I just followed the link.
OK, this article at the link here indicates that on Monday the Treasury IG, Russell George and acting IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel will testify before the House Appropriations committee, Tuesday targeted organizations will testify before the House Ways and Means committee, and on Thursday Issa’s committee will have a hearing that should probably be called the “Cupid Shuffle IRS Dance Routine” hearing:

I did not know that. That clarifies some things for me.
To me it looks like they are bit by bit boxing in certain parts of the “chain of command.” I don’t think Lerner (for one) has any wiggle room left. The limited transcripts released the other day has the look of an attempt to herd in some of the middle level people, most likely for pointing fingers up the chain.
It is a useful technique to interview people off-camera but on record and get the information needed to take testimony with the public given a clear view.
I did hear Rep. Gowdy saying they were taking lengthy depositions to prepare for hearings.
Those depositions or interviews make it possible for the testimony to be very focused, direct and to the point. Plus, like any good lawyer, you don’t end up asking a question in testimony that you don’t already know the answer to. As you note, makes the “boxing in” very efficient for the little time allotted to each member for questions.

I’ve been hearing this for some time now, and that makes me all the more curious about Rep. Jordan questioning Shulman on the White House visits. It gives me the impression that Jordan knows whom Shulman meet with and what was discussed. Even the democrat Connolley referred to Jordan’s questioning and reminded Shulman that he was under oath. It would be surprising to me if Jordan was just fishing.
I hope those dance routines go viral as well. I’ve heard them all morning on our local Rush radio station with some woman screaming her “dance” instructions!
