Finding itself in an increasingly complex and hostile security environment, Japan has taken the first steps towards developing a pre-emptive first-strike capability. This is a controversial move in a region that remains wary of a potential return to Japanese militarism.
Just a few years ago, the idea that the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) would be given the ability to conduct operations that go beyond self defense would have sounded ludicrous, not to mention that offensive capabilities would have contravened a longstanding interpretation of Japans pacifist constitution.

December 7, 1942 was consdered by the Japs to be a “pre-emptive strike”.
Never forget.
they were pretty good at this once.
What did the Japanese do a year after Pearl Harbor? I have forgotten.
1941, IIRC.
Point well taken.
They are not a Christian nation.
Not hardly any left. But that matters not to the Faithful!
Japan hates ALL foreigners. Give them the big one and they will use it against us as payback. But then u can think of their relationship with other Asians as the same as the muzzies(think shia/sunni).
They are a pure martial race when distilled.
As a boy in the Marshall Islands we dug up a bunch of unexploded phosporous rounds, grenades, etc. they were our “allies” then in the 60’s.
Keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer...
” Japan hates ALL foreigners “
You sir , are talking out of your butthole .
The Asians all hate each other. South Korea hates Japan. Japan hates China. China hates Vietnam. Vietnam hates Taiwan.
None of them can get along.
Just for laughs...
Oh and the only weapons these giant robots can use are just blown up versions of handguns and rifles...
I think that Christianity has a real future in Asia, looking at the explosion currently taking place in China. Japan is the one that Christian missionaries have been trying to crack for over a century, and with the current crisis of a critically old population vs. a low young population, another lost decade is in the future. Materialism will struggle, faith will rise. I think a recent survey listed Japan as one of the nations in which atheism had decreased a little since the 90s (along with Germany, weirdly enough).
Christ wants Japan. They just resist a lot.
Any nation that can defeat Rodan and Mothra, is not to be trifled with.
Given the North Korean nuclear program development, and the rising assertiveness of China...one could easily predict this was coming.
Personally, in that environment, even though we stand to help them and defend them, I cannot blaim the Japanese for moving in this direction...particularly with someone like Obama at the helm in the U.S.
Japan hates ALL foreigners.
Not true. They prefer some over others. They prefer the USA over China.
He desires that all would come to him and kneel at the foot of the Cross and apprehend their Salvation, true that.
many are called, but few are Chosen!
They have a kook off their western shore and the powerhouse of China staring them in the face.
The Japan of today is not the Japan of the 30s and 40s so they have the right to defend themselves the same way we do.
Believe me, I hated the Japanese for the longest time for Pearl Harbor and the Bataan death march and for sucking up to Hitler.
Japan is now a clone of the USA and it will ever be like it was 70 years ago.
With help from the Americans. Nagasaki was the site of the largest Christian church in the orient, St. Mary's Cathedral. Also had the largest concentration of baptised Christians in all of Japan. (Also the city where the Jesuit missionary, Francis Xavier, established a mission church in 1549.)
The morning of August 9, 1945, a B-29 Superfortress called Bocks Car, took off from Tinian Island to drop Fat Man on Japan. St. Marys Cathedral was one of the landmarks that the Bocks Car bombardier had been briefed on, and looking through his bomb site over Nagasaki that day, he identified the cathedral and ordered the drop. The bomb detonated only 500m away. Mass was well attended that day. The entire Christian community of Nagasaki was wiped out.
How many Christians died that day? I’d heard of this but not any details. Very sad.
Like Europe, home of two World Wars. Or the US, where Americans shed more blood killing each other in its own Civil War, sometimes brother against brother.
If you read Japanese history books you might discover that Japan loves to do sneak attacks. They lull their opponents asleep and attack when they least expect it. And when they invade a country they wreak as much destruction as possible. What happened in the 30s and 40s was just a pattern of behavior the Japanese utilized before for countless centuries.
