The state Senate and House, after short debates, voted overwhelmingly early Wednesday to approve a bill blocking public disclosure of photos of homicide victims and some other records in reaction to the Newtown school massacre.

The Senate took up the bill at 1:17 a.m. and voted 33-2 to approve it at about 1:35 a.m. Voting no were Democratic Sens. Edward Meyer of Guilford and Anthony Musto of Trumbull.

I’m sorry, how is this a matter for the legislature?

The dems probably wanted to leak the photos for political reasons.

When releasing the information would make them look stupid - or be evidence of their overreach in reaction.

That was my thought, too-—

At least someone is using their head and doing the right thing, though—which is rare for our legislature these days.

I think it is because they are trying to fight back against the Alex Joneses of the blogging world in regards to conspiracy theories.

Except that Alex will claim that this law PROVES the conspiracy

By doing this, I believe they are ENABLING the Alex Jones’ of the world. Release the photos, let the experts weight in, close the books on this tragedy. In the meantime, those of us out here wondering what really happened are being blueballed by bureaucrats.

It's about time. Our media (local, national, global) has lost its compass. Children grow up with fake carnage in their video games and movies and pictures of real carnage on TV "news" and in papers. We've got decades of children who are desensitized to violence, and accept real life violence right along the the fake stuff. Don't know if they can be turned around, but the media/news sources sure should start acting like responsible adults.

The shame is that we now need laws to protect us from those whose job it is to inform. JMHO; we're beyond saving.

This vote will stir up the wackos even more. I distrust the government as much as most, but those who claim the massacre was faked or set up are nuts. They come across as crazy as those who think 911 was done by the US or with the help of the US.

Some things just don’t pass the gut instinct test. I think that something really fishy was going on in Benghazi and that is why Obama had our rescue teams stand down and didn’t provide the requested security to the Ambassador.

I think there is something really wrong with Obama’s background and eligibility. I know the IRS, EPA, FBI and other agencies have been used as a tool against the Democrats/Socialists enemies. I believe the left is trying to destroy our sovereignty through bankruptcy via out of control welfare programs, other spending, and wrecking our economy. I believe the government is spying on everyone and people in power use gained knowledge to control the media, politicians and private individuals. I believe Obama and the left sent guns to Mexico to try to build a case to attack the 2nd amendment.

Some conspiracies are real, some are phony and unnecessary distractions or attacks on political opponents.

I see no reason to doubt that a massacre of innocent children and adults happened at that school. Yes, the left was waiting like vultures for the next big shooting, but other than that, it was just a horrible murder scene. mho

True.

It's not the photos, it's the "some other records" part.

They should not block freedom of the press and speech this way. There are so many other ways a law like this can be abused by the state.

There are many kinds of homicide, abortion is homicide for example. You can’t trust the state to pass a wise and reasonable law as it is at this time.

Bad law.

???? It is a dem controlled state???

If there were any politics to be gained by dems in showing the pictures then they would have been leaked.

No this only begs the question WHY??? Why did it take the state legislature making a law for this situation??? All this does is add fuel to the conspiracy fire on the internet on this topic. Something even I blew off until this.

Exactly. Common sense should have been enough to not release those photos..

Any child shown in pictures should first have their parents release signed before their image is released. If I were a parent, I would sign the release because I would be furious at the people who claimed it never happened, but I can see why other parents would not want their child’s bloody corpse put on the internet.

Good for them, looks like they got something right. If your 6 year old was murdered in cold blood, would you want photos of her dead body floating around the internet? Only a worthless scum would have any interest in seeing those photos. This is the biggest no-brainer ever. Basic human decency.

The article claims the law applies to every case of homicide.

I should have added that it was the state legislature, so for the state of Connecticut this applies.

You will see not only Alex Jones push the envelope, but could even pose a possible legal challenge.
