Lindsey Graham Isn’t Sure If Bloggers Are Protected by First Amendment

At a press conference today, he wasn’t sure if bloggers deserved First Amendment protections:

“Who is a journalist is a question we need to ask ourselves,” he said. “Is any blogger out there saying anything—do they deserve First Amendment protection? These are the issues of our times.”

A few candidates’ names have been brought up repeatedly, the most notable of which is Rep. Trey Gowdy, from South Carolina’s 4th district. Gowdy is well-known for being a conservative bulldog in the House and has highlighted his political skills recently during his grilling of Lois Lerner. In a fight between Gowdy and Graham, Gowdy might be a good bet.

I think this will be the new line of Constitutional reading:

The Second Amendment only applies to the militia, and by analogy, the First Amendment only applies to a comparable group. (In this case the media).

The first amendment only applies to single sheet, hand operated single color printing presses, not the high speed, fully automatic assault presses on which newspapers and magazines are printed today. That is if you went by the same logic as those who say that the second applies only to muskets.

abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press....

It is or should be obvious that the founders were referring to the freedom of expression whether by spoken or written word. Both methods were given equal protection. The Courts have confirmed the freedom of expression idea in cases involving art (or so called art) such as the infamous Piss Christ and in demonstrations involving flag burning and other acts of non verbal or non written expression. The efforts to enact a shield law for members of a given profession or employees of certain business is not very wise and actually has nothing to do with the first amendment.

I’m sure they would like it to be that way. Too bad it isn’t. When politicians decree to deprive Americans of their Civil Rights, those politicians should immediately lose their position and they should lose their Rights.

I don’t know why politicians have been pushing to restrict our Rights as much as they have recently but I’m not complying with their crap any more. Our Government is out of control and our elected officials need to be knocked down a few pegs to reality.

What is happening now is untenable.

Graham is a techno illiterate.

200+ years ago a blogger was just the person who stood on a soap box in the town square.

graham just does not like talk of being primaried.
