RIP. Was 91 years old
Probably needs a high rise coffin.
Seriously...She made a lot of folks happy on the Bob Hope tours.
As a teen, I recall we girls at the pool, thought if you had one of her *swimsuits* you were the *bee's knees.*
I remember thinking “what the heck are they swimming for in the middle of a movie”
Swimming with Elvis and Rock Hudson in that great swimming pool in the sky now.
Wow! Figured she had past long ago, her and Johnny Weissmuller that other famous swim champ of yesteryear (let’s not forget Buster Crabbe)
RIP
The best film she appeared in was probably 1943’s ‘A Guy Named Joe’ with Spencer Tracy and Irene Dunne. It was remade in 1989 by Steve Spielberg as ‘Always’.
RIP.
Her movies are swimderful!
Beautiful when wet..and not bad dry either!
Our movie past is going away. I remember my Grandmother loved her films.
She was nothing but gorgeous with the most incredible legs . . . matched only by Cyd Charisse. And she was extremely classy besides. Big loss, but I hope she had a good life. Thanks for the memories.
Just recently added one of her lesser known titles to my collection, prior to which I had none: “Skirts Ahoy,” in which she joins the Navy with Vivian Blaine. Picked it up from the WB Archive Collection. Fun, but it’s easy to see why it’s not among her most remembered.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to hijack the thread to Elvis Presley, who, by the way, died falling off a golden throne while reading a book about Jesus being a space alien (as reported by initial reports, and later suppressed.) Wouldn’t the circumstances of his passing be sufficient to secure a purchase of an all-season ticket to the swimming pools of Heaven?
On a TMC promo there is a DYNAMITE shot of her in a one-piece, floating on her back with her palms behind her head. I always manage to be looking at the screen when that shot flashes by. RIP Esther.
Gosh the women of that era were so beautiful. I remember watching some of her movies with my folks. She had a nice long life.
