Chris Christie just announced that the NJ State Attorney General Jeff Chiesa will be appointed to the Senate pending the Special Election in October.

I don’t think Christie will switch parties. The Dems clearly want a bunch of liberals in the GOP tent.
A state Attorney General who’s a Republican could be a good thing. With a few exceptions, most US Senators seem really clueless about what’s legal or constitutional.
In other words, we’ll have a Republican in the seat for 4 months.
Thats the best we got out of Christie. No one who was willing to have power of incumbency and try to go beyond that I guess.
well they know they have no chance of taking that senate seat, its a lost cause.
Christie should have let the republican serve the full term in that case.
the NJ legislature would have just bounced the other law back in to prevent just that. That really was the best the GOP was gonna get out of it.
Chiesa grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey, the eldest of three children. When he was 8 years old, his father, a chemical plant worker, died, and he was raised by his mother, a public school teacher. He graduated from University of Notre Dame in 1987 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting. He earned his J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in 1990.
Catholic. Single mom union school teacher. Likely at least half Italian. Hmmm. The ONLY vote of his that will matter before Booker's coronation will be on the Gang Rape of 8 bill.

I don’t think that Christie is afraid to lose reelection if the Senate election was on the November ballot—the sacrificial-lamb Democrat running against him has no chance. What Christie wanted to avoid was the Senate race becoming the big-ticket item in November, drumming up Democrat (particularly black) turnout and helping the Democrats hold both houses of the state legislature. With the gubernatorial race the only really big contest, and Christie winning big, he might be able to sweep in GOP majorities in the Senate (which would allow him finally to appoint two new members of the state Supreme Court) and House. And, yes, Christie could have declared that the special election wouldn’t be held until November 2014, but if he did that the NJ Supreme Court likely would have ruled that it had to be held no later than November 2013 and scheduled it for the same date as the gubernatorial and legislative election, so he preemptively had to pick a date prior to this November.
I agree!!! Unlike most on thos site.....I believe the whole political world will chang radically over the four-five months...before the Special USA Senate race in NJ!!! Having Chiesa as an “R” is positve, if, as he proclaims, he is generally a conservative. If we just get off our butts and get to work in Massachusetts, we just might get a win for Gomez over low life, Democrat, Markey on June 25th!!! That would mean the Pubbies would have 2 more “Rs” until at least October!!! those two can tie the Democrats in knots within the USA Senate!!!
With the huge Mark Sanford, Jason Smith conservative victories in SC & MO elections, recently, the House remains safely and strongly Republican/conservative!!!

Exactly. Every Democratic governor in the country would have appointed somebody in his own party to complete the term.
But Christie punked out. He's still a'courtin' the NY Times editorial board and the left-leaning moderates, believing that he'll be their girl.

Don’t be so confident about that. After all the GOP just nominated Romney. Both the beltway GOP and Dems have a strong interest in marginalizing conservatives. The best way to do that is promote and FUND liberal Republicans like Chrstie. BOLO!
There is a fair chance of taking the NJ Senate, and if the Democrat's best candidate doesn't win the primary, an outside chance of a Republican pickup in October. Cory Booker may be their best candidate, but he's not the machine's favored candidate. With the Democrat effort now split over three elections, NJ politics is going to be almost as much fun to watch this summer as the scenery on my noontime jaunts on the boardwalk!
BTW, whoever wrote the article is particularly clueless about NJ politics -- Pallone is already collecting signatures; the deadline is Monday.
Wasn't gonna happen. The NJ law is badly written, with two contradictory parts of a single bill, so neither part takes precedence. It looks like nobody bothered to read it, or at least think it through. Or they never expected anyone to die the day before a primary election, and five months before an election. If Christie appointed a "permanent" Republican senator, The NJ Democrat party would sue, and they would win. The NJ Supreme Court is dominated by liberal/Democrats.
Except when it comes to gun control. Another RINO.
It's a waste of a pick considering he has no plans of running in the next election. Picking someone who has no plans to run is like giving the Dems an edge in the next election .
