Colo. gay discrimination alleged over wedding cake

A gay couple is pursuing a discrimination complaint against a Colorado bakery, saying the business refused them a wedding cake to honor their Massachusetts ceremony, and alleging that the owners have a history of turning away same-sex couples.

As more states move to legalize same-sex marriage and civil unions, the case highlights a growing tension between gay rights advocates and supporters of religious freedom.

"Religious freedom is a fundamental right in America and it's something that we champion at the ACLU," said Mark Silverstein, the legal director of the group in Colorado, which filed the complaint on behalf of the couple. "We are all entitled to our religious beliefs and we fight for that. But someone's personal religious beliefs don't justify breaking the law by discriminating against others in the public sphere."

The attorney for Jack Phillips, one of the owners of Masterpiece Cakeshop, sees it differently.

"We don't believe that this is a case about commerce. At its heart, this is a case about conscience," said Nicolle Martin. She said the matter is important because it will serve as an example for future cases across the country as more gay couples gain legal recognitions for their relationships.

I don’t think it’s because Libertarians are naive. It’s because they’re hedonists themeslves, or for some dark reason, they promote hedonism. That is why the Libertarian party officialy supports the entire spectrum of the “gay” agenda, no holds barred porn, no laws against prostitution, all drug use, all abortion, and open borders. A wild free for all, basically. Anarchy.

I forgot the Libertarian convention, full of hedonists. But its sad to hear Republicans say give up Social issues. Guess they wouldn't defend business owners and churches sued for refusing service to gay "marriages".

if memory serves me right then this bakery was asked to do a cake a few years ago and they said no and now homosexuals up and down the country are attacking this bakery.

I hope the judge tells these people to piss off and it reminds me how homosexuals went to Catholic charities to adopt knowing they would be refused and because of their selfish actions kids in MA can’t be adopted by that agency.
How about the military when they said it was their private sex life and don’t ask gave them privacy but now they want us all to know what they are.

We should never have let them get civil unions as far as I am concerned because since then they have been pushing their agenda onto us for years now and they’re still not happy.

They’re like little bratty kids wanting their own way and cannot understand most do not find what they do to each other as normal.

I am hearing more and more people speaking out about homosexuals because they just can’t shut up about their sex life and want parades, flags, special laws, and bills, etc

enough is enough

I was wrong in my post. The gays wanted a cake made so that they could "celebrate" in Colorado after their high holy gay marriage in MA.

But of ALL bakeries they could choose from, they happened, just HAPPENED to choose the one that isn't down with the whole gay marriage thing.

If someone didn't hate gays before, this is exhibit A on why they should.

Pure harassment and grandstanding.

These two are real pieces of $hit.

And I mean that with all due respect.

Basically the LP is the ultra kook anarchy fringe of the left.

They want abortion legal up to the moment of birth, but not tax funded.

Well, they are selfish and ignorant, I agree. But they also want to destory the social fabric and create a sodomy/hedonism revolution of destruction int eh whole country, and actually world. They’re willing to sacrifice time and money to do that. They’ve outlined it clearly in their writings and manifestos.

If it’s none of our business, then don’t insist that we support it.

Private businesses are not bound by the Constitution prohibits Congress from restricting free speech and the practice of religion.

Exactly. Finding a bakery in CO to celebrate the MA “wedding?” Especially finding a bakery with that kind of ‘history?’

Exactly. Why refuse service in this day and age, especially when you can be sued for human rights abuses? This does not help the cause at all. It just destroys businesses.

I’m not sure I’d be as obvious as salt rather than sugar. I’d probably go two too many eggs, no vanilla, too much crisco in the frosting, things like that. Something they can’t put their finger on——or prove. I doubt they can prove the sample taste was different than what is actually served.

If, after the fact, they decided they don’t like it..refund with a smile.

That way, homosexual couples can have their cake and eat it as well.

IMO, these gay creeps can just go to Wal-Mart & buy a cake there & do with it whatever they wish.

They will drive every single business in he USA into oblivion if they continue this path.

Then, when they need someone with expertise to do something for them—it won’t be there.
