Campus bans guns, tells people to nod at attackers

In lieu of guns, people who find themselves in dangerous situations at or near the University of Arkansas should defend themselves by glancing and nodding, said a university safety expert.

Earlier this year, the Arkansas legislature approved a concealed carry law, but gave school administrators permission to override the law and ban guns on campuses. Most Arkansas universities, including the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University, opted to prohibit concealed carry, according to The College Fix.

But disarmed faculty and staff members are vulnerable to attack when traveling to and from campus, according to a chain of emails sent between UA staff members, one of whom was assaulted by three teenagers on his way to class.

“I had not gone very far before I was attacked from behind by two of them and received a number of blows to the back of my head,” wrote the faculty member, a UA professor of biology, in an e-mail. “Given the proximity to this campus and the fact that a number of our students, faculty and staff walk through this very same area on both a daily and nightly basis I felt it prudent to share this info with you and to advise you to be on your guard while in the vicinity.”

Another faculty remember responded to the email saying that a student had been attacked in the same area.

Sharon Houlette, a detective with the UA Department of Public Safety, responded to the thread with advice for avoiding being attacked, which included a suggestion to “glance or nod” at possible attackers.

“A glance or a nod will help you show anyone who might think that you are not paying attention, and you are aware of their presence,” she wrote.

She also suggested parking on campus and using the trolley system, and offered to host a crime prevention workshop.

But Nic Horton, editor of The Arkansas Project, had a different suggestion for keeping safe on campus.

“If you must step foot on a college campus, choose one that respects your 2nd Amendment rights,” he wrote.

“That’s why I hate liberals. They’re all a bunch of hypocrites..”

Yes, they are. When we were talking about defending yourself, the sister-in-law asked her husband (another liberal) if he would shoot someone attacking her. The husband has a concealed carry license and carries a big gun. The husband didn't answer for a long time - then he said, “If I shot someone I could get in trouble.” I couldn't believe the dead air time before he answered, then was stunned he wouldn't shoot.

I knew then he was just carrying that gun to be macho - he won't use it because he might get in trouble. Do you get that? He wouldn't shoot to save his wife - this man is useless in a life or death situation with a bad guy.

Plus, this is Texas and no one gets in trouble for defending his/her life or the lives of others.

Couldn’t have been Fast and Furious 6. Lots of gunplay and stuff but very little defensive nodding.

Seriously?? Why doesn’t he just answer “Well, I’ll turn my firearm to my head because it’s my fault for being rich and having all these wonderful stuff while this poor man is just robbing me so he can fairly have the same wonderful things I worked hard for in life” s/

She wouldn’t help - she would feel bad that I died.

Aye, aye, aye...

My sister-in-law for years has said she is a Quaker and doesn't believe in violence and an attacker would sense that and not hurt her. These days, she knows I have several firearms and now says it is okay if I kill someone who wants to attack her but she will not use the gun herself. She is the worst lib I have ever known. She is to the left of Stalin. And, it's okay for me to save her life - well, swell.

Tell her that you will probably wind up defending her, eventually, but you will allow an attacker to draw first blood just to disabuse her about her pacifism protecting her. See how she reacts.

It's long been my opinion that "pacifism" like hers is evil, in that it is damaging to the soul of a protector to be indoctrinated that his protective actions are immoral.

Glance or nod behind the front sight of your handgun.

Anything else is unacceptable.

“Seriously??”

Yes, he was serious. I had thought he would immediately say he would shoot the guy attacking her but there was this long silence because he was thinking - then said if he shot someone, he could get in trouble.

I was stunned. I knew he was the worst kind of liberal but he carries a gun on his person all the time. I thought he would surely protect the wife instantly but he won't.

They don't store anything and live on the coast. They know I am a prepper and think I am nuts but if TSHTF, I think they would come here because they know I am prepared. I stored more thinking they would come here. I was thinking he would be another source of defense if he was here because I knew he carried a gun, but now I don't think that. I couldn't depend on him helping me with defense.

Here's how liberal they are: They watch/listen to Aljazeera (sp) news. They say Aljazeera is the only one who tells the truth. They told me a few months ago that the only danger we have is global warming. That was to tell me storing wasn't necessary since global warming is years away and that's the only danger we have.

They helped me tremendously when my husband, her brother, was sick and dying, so I love them for that, but they are vicious in their liberalism and I've gotten to the point I tell them I'm not talking about politics with them.

Now, if they have a hurricane coming their way this year (and they have nothing stored), it will be interesting to see if they hit the road and come to my house.
