WASHINGTON (CBS5) - An amendment that bars cities that do not fully assist with federal immigration enforcement, also known as "sanctuary cities," from funding has been approved by the House of Representatives.

The amendment was added to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2014.

Rep. Matt Salmon of Mesa, R-Arizona 5th district, offered the amendment during a debate on the bill, and his amendment was adopted by a voice vote.

Salmon emphasized the growing problem of sanctuary cities.

"The reality is that sanctuary cities contribute to an ever bigger illegal immigration problem and should not benefit from federal law enforcement funding," he said. "These funds should be reserved for those cities that actively enforce the law."

Well, I know sometimes I am not as clear as I should be, or I answer the wrong poster, private mail has always clarified any problem I’ve had with another poster.

I don’t even know why I jumped into this, though empathy may have played a part.

Hope so. Watch how quickly some of these broke, crime ridden cities change their tune.

I don’t understand the myopic small ball view of the House GOP.

The Dem power establishment in sanctuary cities are going to openly and whole heartedly embrace this, some will embrace it publicly and some only in private but mouth platitudes against it in public.

The removal of Fed funding for Fed level law enforcement in sanctuary cities opens up vasts venues of grey and black market activities to the power brokers who groom, fund and support the sycophantic politicians who put these sanctuary laws into place.

The GOP just rewarded the Democrat machinery with an open invitation to increased looting and plundering of the body politic.

Oh, don’t throw them into that briar patch!!!

Crime breeds opportunity for the parasite classes. They’re going to let the cities burn as they plunder the remaining wealth.

IF somehow the House GOP were able to sustain this policy over a course of years, it would take most current sanctuary cities a decade or longer before the effects provoke the House GOP’s intended response. By then we’ll have something like 15 to 25 million illegal aliens and de facto amnesty in one form or the other.

This is at most a legislative platitude to mollify the GOP masses, it is nothing more.

Changing the name of something to illicit or avoid an emotional connotation or connection is standard marxist/communist operating proceedure.

It's been used here to their great success.
