He was the ultimate finger in the wind politician. Whatever the prevailing wind in Georgia he went along with it. From segregationist to Carter liberal to Clintonite "New Democrat" to "Conservative" (moderate) Democrat to DINO (once the GOP took over and he was retiring) though still unwilling to officially leave the party of treason.
I'll a take an establishment Republican like Isakson or Suxby over THAT any day of the week. It's important in going after RINOs that we don't engage in hyperbolic nonsense like "Zell Miller was more conservative".
