Homeschool enrollment explodes

Absolutely no one I know is satisfied with the education their children are getting in public schools. But most of the people I talk to with young kids have two parents that work full time outside the house and are unable to homeschool their children.

But a lot of parents are making the sacrifice as evidenced by the explosion of home schoolers in the US.

From Breitbart:

As dissatisfaction with the U.S. public school system grows, apparently so has the appeal of homeschooling. Educational researchers, in fact, are expecting a surge in the number of students educated at home by their parents over the next ten years, as more parents reject public schools.

A recent report in Education News states that, since 1999, the number of children who are homeschooled has increased by 75%. Though homeschooled children represent only 4% of all school-age children nationwide, the number of children whose parents choose to educate them at home rather than a traditional academic setting is growing seven times faster than the number of children enrolling in grades K-12 every year.

As homeschooling has become increasingly popular, common myths that have long been associated with the practice of homeschooling have been debunked.

Any concerns about the quality of education children receive by their parents can be put to rest by the consistently high placement of homeschooled students on standardized assessment exams. Data demonstrates that those who are independently educated generally score between the 65th and 89th percentile on these measures, while those in traditional academic settings average at around the 50th percentile. In addition, achievement gaps between sexes, income levels, or ethnicity--all of which have plagued public schools around the country--do not exist in homeschooling environments.

According to the report:

Recent studies laud homeschoolers' academic success, noting their significantly higher ACT-Composite scores

Only those who don’t care about their kids would send them to one of the public programming centers.

public programming centers.

That certainly is a totally accurate description.

This is a long one...

Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963

# 17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

# 18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

# 19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

# 30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

# 31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

# 40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

# 41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

# 42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [”]united force[”] to solve economic, political or social problems.

We’ve been home schooling our four kids since 2001. Three of them have never stepped foot on a public school campus.

As that number approaches 10% expect a backlash from the Left as fear crescendos in the Teacher’s Unions

Legislation will crop up in state legislatures to ban home schooling citing rare instances where unstable children do harm to themselves and it is blamed on the fact that they are home schooled.

Our home schooled daughter graduated from college in 2004. Home schooling her up to HS was a move all 3 of us agree was *extremely* beneficial to her education and emotional well being. She’s done just fine, utilizing her ability to think and achieve for herself.

We did & do consider the financial sacrifices in order to home school to be the best investment we have made in life.

Oh yeah, guaranteed they will come after the independent thinkers. Despots always have.

Make no mistake, teacher’s unions are the embodiment of despotic thought and action. Worshipers of their pagan god, The State.

Sending a child to public school is child abuse, unless the parents are Communist, in which case they and the child are too stupid to know any better.
Disclaimer for FReepers that have kids in public school....
I assume there could be a few exceptions in some parts of the US.

...or do NOT have the funds. Everyone cannot home school their children even if they strongly desire to do so.

And the next growth industry? Positive, traditional-values oriented, Christian, patriotic PRIVATE youth organizations. The Boy Scouts are dead to many families now that they’ve embraced faggotry and sowed the seeds of their own demise. Let the next generation of traditional youth organizations rise from their ashes.

why do you think the left has always pushed so hard to get women into the work force? with both parents out of the house the state is the full time nanny indoctrinating the kids.

Homeschooling just may be the salvation of our nation - but it also may be too little, too late. We have 2 to 3 generations of dumbed-down, Marxist-brainwashed, low information voters now outnumbering conservatives (who have few true conservatives to vote for).

Not one conservative voice has addressed HOW to deal with this problem. Rush has acknowledged that it exists (after my many emails to him on the subject that he was NOT addressing it?????? Who knows....), but he has NOT offered a solution.

We home-schooled our 8 before it was cool, starting in ‘82. All have done exceptionally well. Wife and I were both public school teachers - so we knew first hand what was awaiting them in the factory brain-washing, government Marxist schools.

Last I read...about 4% of school-age children were home schooled. It might be 5 or more by now.

The kids are homeschooled. The 16 year old girl has always been able to flit through school, even though her mom is Sgt Rock with the academic standards. So I walked into the public school to talk to the counselor about college level classes.

In a short two minute conversation I got the immediate impression that this counselor needed help tying his shoes and buttoning his shirt in the morning. We’ll sign her up for online college courses.
