Dad of five faces jail for ‘bashing burglar’ at business (Great Britain)

Dad of five faces jail for ‘bashing burglar’ at business

EXCLUSIVE

By CRAIG WOODHOUSE

A DAD of five is facing jail — for confronting two men who were allegedly raiding his business.

Andrew Woodhouse is accused of GBH with intent.

But wife Lisa told The Sun he was trying to defend himself after one alleged raider “came at him” with a plank as he chased them off. Mr Woodhouse grabbed the wood and allegedly used it on Kevin Green, 52, injuring both his legs and an arm.

The offence carries a maximum LIFE sentence.

Mr Woodhouse, 43, was woken at night by a burglar alarm — put in his home after previous raids on his nearby paving firm in Abergavenny, South Wales.

The other alleged burglar, Timothy Cross, 31, is said to have fled and returned with a third man, both wielding planks.

Mr Woodhouse rugby-tackled one and waited for the police.

Green and Cross were charged with theft of fuel from the firm in March. Both will appear at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on Thursday — as will Mr Woodhouse after the Crown Prosecution Service decided he used “unreasonable” force.

But Lisa said: “What was Andrew to do? Let them belt him?”

The case comes just months after the law was changed to protect people who use force against burglars. But it only applies in their homes, not if intruders are chased outside.

Mr Woodhouse’s MP, Tory David Davies, called the move to charge him “astonishing”.

1—I despise Morgan, and everyone here knows it. I have said so many times. He faked photos of Iraqis being beaten by British troops, and as an ex-British Para, I have twice the reason to despise him as most civilian British already do.

2—I also have stated many times that I am a conservative. Ex-Tory, now UKIP. I have never been a socialist, and think it is a ruinous ideology.

3—Why the need to be so rude?. By all means, debate me on crime figures, but no need to attack me personally.

BTW, I agree that % wise, burglaries and muggings are higher in the UK, but rape figures are equal, and the US murder rate is FOUR times the UK’s. And the US gun murder rate is SIXTEEN times the UK’s.

Neither the US or UK are what they once were, but neither country is finished.

Just to be clear, "the scotsman" did not say America was finished, he was pointing out that the UK was not finished any more than American is not finished.

I hope you are correct lj and more people wake the heck up. I have to deal with libs every day and they are convinced that the only problem with our country is Republicans standing in the way of progress. Needless to say the rest of us are going to have to stand and fight without them.

There are 28 different types of assault on the UK statute books. Whilst nobody, least of all me, would disagree that the UK is more violent than it was, the fact is that classification of crime in the UK definately skews the figures and makes the UK look more violent than it is.

Otherwise, you have to believe that the UK has gone from a nation famous for being polite and virtually crime free to a nation so violent, it is more violent than the US, a nation notorious for city crime, gang violence and which has 75% of all the world serial killers living in it, a nation who has 15000 people murdered by guns every year.

Do you, or any American, honestly think Britain is a far more violent nation than the US. Really?. More violent than it was 50 or even 25 yrs ago, but worse than the US, with all your violence?. Really?.

I am 43 this year. I have been the victim of crime ONCE in my 25 yrs as an adult living in the UK. The last 25 yrs where crime in the UK has risen.

You also forget one huge fact: that the rise in UK crime comes from a level of violence that was almost non-existant. Britain was until recently a nation where famously violence (murders, rapes) were incredibly low, and the famous British bobby didnt need anything except his trusty truncheon. America was famous for being very violent. Britain was famous for being the complete opposite.

And the US gun murder rate is SIXTEEN times the UK's.

And the difference is nearly entirely due to gang murders in the cities. We have more murder, but that's the price we pay for freedom. Most of us here will never be victims of murder, on the contrary even as we age we will be less apt to be victims due to deterrence (at least in the rural area I live in) and can defend ourselves with lethal force even when we lack the physical strength to fend off 3 young attackers with planks.

Thank you.

I hate these threads, in defending the UK, it makes me look like I am bashing the US.

BTW, I am a minority: a gun owning Brit. lol

That depends on where you live and where you work. Do you ride public transportation through bad areas? I live in the rural areas now but spent a few years close to the worst section of a city. Walked and rode through high crime areas. I am 50 now and more careful, but have not been victimized by any type of crime against me or my property and I carry thousands of dollars in cash and cash equivalents at times.

I live in a large town (by UK standards), bar two years on a farm. I have worked and lived in Glasgow, the UK’s hardest and most violent city. As well as Paisley, which was once Europe’s murder capital (by % of murder). I have driven and walked through some of the UK’s worst areas. With a company car, expensive suits and watch, mobile phone etc.

For all that, my one crime was ironically a burglary in my own home!.

And a live burglary at that. Here when one speaks about a burglary it usually means that they were away when they were broken into.

He was a pathetic junkie, not even a ‘professional’ burglar. Hence I gave him a duffing, and he got 44 months for that and other burglaries.

Just 6 wks out of jail, he committed attempted murder and is now serving a 6 year term. Irony is that he was a pathetic snivelling wee coward when I and my brother caught him.

The scotsman’s actual POV is clear by reading a page or two of his comments. But his POV doesn’t interest me since he’s not in the US and doesn’t vote here nor can he influence people here for good or ill. I copied his comment since it led into yours; which does interest me since you live here and can influence others.

Here’s my strongly held POV, reposting from another thread [the discussion was about defeatism/it’s hopeless/over]:

If everyone who knows what the general “we” on FR know, does whatever they can do to spread not just the information but the courage and principles that are the real foundation our Constitutioanl Republic, the benefit is great. I also initiate converstaions here and there when out and about, and 9 times out of 10, people are happy to hear someone speaking up about “controversial” topics - I think a lot more people are conservative or open to these principles than a lot of us realize.

I’ve bought a few sets of Enemies Foreign and Domestic - gave one set to my County SHeriff. One set is loaned out right now. I write letters to the editor when they’ll accept them and generally don’t hold back. In fact, I’ve seen the next week’s newspaper (I live in a valley with 17,000 population and a weekly newspaper) with letters praising the last letter I wrote - getting the message out there however you can does good work. I don’t do FB or twitter but people who do can spread the message (and the fighting spirit) that way.

WHat else can a tiny citizen do? I have no $ and contacting Congressmen - I tried, and have 2 Dem Senators.

I email articles out to people. People with many relatives can encourage and inform their extended families. Keep in mind that when one other person gets convinced and encouraged, they will do the same reaching out to many people they know.

I’ve been to 3 public meetings with our County Sheriff and I’m not afraid to ask questions - in fact I almost made a nuisance of myself at the last one. People are are getting very angry at the abuses of not just the fedgov but our rotten commie stateguv and even our county commisioners are a little gang of small times crooks. People just need to get riled up enough, informed, and we’re on our way out of this mess.
