OTTAWA — Canada’s unpredictable labour market delivered another huge surprise in May, piling on 95,000 jobs — the biggest monthly gain in 11 years — and trimming the unemployment rate to its lowest level in four months.

Most of the new jobs — representing the largest increase since August 2002 — were full-time positions, and nearly all were created by the private sector, Statistics Canada said Friday. The unemployment rate declined to 7.1% — matching the level in December 2012 — from 7.2% in April.

Canada: 35 m: job growth in 1 month :95,000
USA: 310 m:job growth in 1 month:175,000
Proportionately it would be 700,000 +.
I guess that’s what exploiting natural resources like the oil sands can do for an economy.

The federal government is running ads explaining how the oilsands project is creating jobs throughout the country. I guess it is.

There is more energy in the ground and offshore North America than anywhere else on earth. It is estimated that Canada is #2 in the world in oil and gas reserves. Guess who is #1.

I love Canada and Canadians.Great country, great people. However, these things must be acknowledged:

Canada is perhaps the luckiest country on earth...sharing a land border with one,and only one,country...that country being the most prosperous, peaceful and civilized major country on earth.Canada, one of the most sparsely populated nations on earth,is awash with natural resources, needn't spend much on defense (Canada's Ministry of Defense is,in fact, headquartered in Arlington,Virginia),has no history of slavery and doesn't share a border with a Fourth World country (as does her neighbor to the south).

Yes,part of Canada's success is almost certainly due to wise government policies but that's only part of the story.

Yet. Just a few more years of Obamanomics here and Canada will be considering building a double layer fence to keep us out.

Osama Obama & Pals would never use any of that in a speech because they know that a huge percentage of voters would see the Rat Party,in general, and Osama in particular,as being responsible. The only excuse that they'd ever use to explain their breathtakingly abysmal economic legacy is "Bush's fault"..."McConnel's fault"..."Boehner's fault"..."the Teabagger's fault".That exact strategy worked well enough last November. And it's working well enough today to earn Osama a 50% approval rating in spite of 8% unemployment.

"Canada is perhaps the luckiest country on earth"

Hahaha. One quibble here. There is no "perhaps" about it. Abundant energy, agricultural and mineral resources and access to the largest consumer market on earth make it hard to fail, economically. Although previous liberal governments have tried.

Geography has been very kind to Canada.
