A little over 13,500 signatures to recall Sen. Angela Giron, D-Pueblo, were turned in Monday morning to the secretary of states office by local gun-rights advocates.
To put the ouster attempt on the ballot 11,500 of those signatures must be valid, which is 25 percent of the number of votes cast in the 2010 election that put Giron in office.
Victor Head, a plumber from Pueblo who is leading the campaign against the senator, said they were diligent to ensure all of the signatures were in Girons Senate District 3.
The state has three weeks to determine whether the signatures are from registered voters in the district, and if so, the governor will put a question on the ballot in coming months asking whether Giron should be recalled and if so, who should replace her. Candidates can get on the ballot by collecting signatures.
Giron is one of four Democrats targeted for recall this summer because of gun legislation they supported during the 2013 legislative session.
For me it was her not caring what constituents had to say, Head said, who came to the Capitol to protest gun control legislation. She listened and then she voted the exact opposite of what her district wanted her to do. Its frustrating to have a representative who doesnt actually represent you.
Of the other recall efforts, only Senate President John Morse, D-Colorado Springs, had signatures turned in. Those signatures are still being verified.
Giron is holding a noon press conference in Denver to discuss the recall effort.
My pleasure.
Nice to see the updated list.
Pueblo Freedom and Rights, the local organization running the Pueblo state Sen. Angela Giron recall, reported turning in 13,570 signatures, or 20 percent more than the 11,285 required to force a recall election.
The Secretary of States office is now checking the validity of the submitted signatures. An announcement on the Morse recall is expected Friday.
Retired cop ready to face Pueblo state Sen. Angela Giron in possible recall election. - George Rivera isn’t waiting for Gov. Hickenlooper to announce a recall election to begin campaigning.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)

Great News!!!!!!
I am so unimpressed with Rocky Mountain Gun Owners over this. They I am not aware that they lifted so much as a finger to help with any of the recalls. There is no reason that they should benefit from them, in my opinion.
YES! Way to go CO!! Keep up the great work.
Woo hoo! Thanks for the ping George!
From what I heard from someone affiliated with that potential Aurora recall, they were actively discouraging it. Are you talking about Dudley Brown?
I agree with you CO Doug...I would not donate to them.
When I turned in signatures at the CO Spgs bank, I spoke with a man also turning in signatures. Do Repubs have someone in mind for a candidate? You can private e-mail if necessary.
LOL! That's the best I've heard in long time. Will have to use that one.
Seriesly, I'm thinking about getting more involved. I'm friends with State Rep. Brian DelGrosso, over in Loveland, and also local talk show host Amy Oliver, who's married to Weld County Sheriff John Cooke.
Yee-haw!
Blue State, my ass!
No, I didn’t say you were joking. I just thought it was funny how you phrased it. Much luck to you. :)
I know. I’m seriously considering doing this.
Am I right to assume that the state senate district held by Democrat Angela Giron has an electorate that is highly Hispanic (perhaps even Hispanic-majority) and strongly labor Democrat (but without many Denver- or Boulder-style moonbats)? If so, a retired cop with the name George Rivera sounds like an ideal candidate to run on the gun issue against Giron, and hopefully the low turnout of a special election will help him pull off the upset.
This says that there are 20 RATs and 15 Republicans in the CO state senate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_state_senate
So we need 3 seats to flip.
Right, faulty me memory. I double checked with Ballotpedia.
I do appreciate your courage...warehouse full of skeletons or not. :) If you care to do so, let us CO FReepers know what we can to do help. Best wishes to you.
