An ex-CIA employee who leaked details of US top-secret phone and internet surveillance has disappeared from his hotel in Hong Kong.

Edward Snowden, 29, checked out from his hotel on Monday. His whereabouts are unknown, but he is believed to be still in Hong Kong.

Earlier, he said he had an "obligation to help free people from oppression".

most of these scandals now are rabbits they released for us to chase so we forget about that Obama ordered the IRS to rig the election for Obama and the democrats/socialists in the Senate.

That being said, Snowden is a hero. He told the American people what the Obama communist should have before wire tapping all of us .probably gave a lot of into to the IRS to further crack down on conservatives.

Impeach this tyrant Obama and get rid of the democrat party, a criminal organization

Snowden needs to get to Mainland China pronto.
He’s not safe in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong police will cooperate with the U.S.

Snowden is a hero.

He had it all , $200,000 a year good job etc.

and Snowden gave it all up so that he could warn the American people what this criminal tyrant Obama was doing = wiretapping all Americans , snooping on all our Internet communications, transactions, phone calls etc. . this Obama creep makes 1984 Big brother look like tame by comparison

The Guardian newspaper says Hong Kong is one of the few places that both could and would resist the dictates of the US government.

Also : ” Though it is unlikely Snowden would be able to spend the rest of his life in Hong Kong, he will be able to use the protections afforded by Hong Kong’s judicial system, which is independent of the Chinese government.”

He betrayed the government! However, he did not betray the country, its people, and the constitution. The man is a patriot.

The government will make him pay for that, and unfortunately not much can be done for this man apart from prayer. He will either be ghosted to the States, or he will fall into the clutches of a foreign intelligence agency (I am sure the Chinese would be quite interested in the gems someone like this could offer).

Like many true patriots this man will pay with his life - be it his literal life, or his freedoms.

Snowden had a great life, 4200,000 / year job , etc.

Snowden gave it all up to warn the American people about the tyrant Obama wiretapping all our communications( that violates the constitution).

what do we do , what do we give up? not much. most conservatives and others just sit down and watch TV , maybe complain on the Internet once in while. why aren’t we camping out at the IRS office?

You might have noticed how being ‘a high school dropout’ precedes all media descriptions of this bright, articulate, self-made man. Clearly, he was not brain-washed in a liberal University. IMHO this is HUGE!!!!!!!

What’s really pathetic in this is that regardless of his motives, whatever they truly are, the man did America a true service. And yet, many of the very people (conservatives) who bemoaned the fact that no one would blow the whistle and expose this admin from within, now condemn him as a chicom spy. for doing EXACTLY what they hoped for.

Wherabouts unknown? I haven’t seen any speculation in the press yet that 1. Maybe the Chinese have him or 2. Maybe the CIA did him in. Both seem ossible, but the press seems to want to avoid that kind of speculation.

He needs to stay hidden. No doubt he had thought this out and despite what some say he is very intelligent. The press and politicians want to make him out to be a failure in the sense that he dropped out of high school, his discharge from special forces training and his top secret security clearance for his age.

News alert-many who get a GED are extremely intelligent, he broke both legs in Special Forces training requiring a discharge (probably jummping out of planes) and lastly many young people in the services and government have top secret clearances.

I have a GED, served in the USAF with a top secret clearance at 17 and after discharge years later was making plenty of money in computers.

I just don’t get how people come to the conclusion that individuals are not intelligent who take courageous actions in their lives.

I have no doubt that this reporter “Greenwald” will release documents in his possession if the security services don’t nab him tying his hands. I suspect others are in possession of documents as well just in case. Hopefully they are an indictment of zero since Edward mentioned him specifically in his interview. One can hope...

He is no hero, he is a traitor and needs to treated as such. He chose the terrorists over his own country.

Snowden is a hero

Snowden has betrayed his oath, his colleagues, his family, and his country. He is a traitor. I'm shocked that FreeRepublic is hosting so many traitorous sympathizers these days. It used to be a proAmerican, patriotic site.

I’m in the he’s a patriot camp. What he did, knowing what he knows about how far gov will go, took enormous courage.

I posted the following at another site:

Hi guys. I was thinking about Snowden and what we know and what we don’t know.

1 – He’s a smart guy.
2 – He has seen how vengeful Obama can be.
3 – He puts it out there that he could even read the President’s email if he knew the address.
4 – He’s a really smart guy at 29.
5 – He didn’t reveal any personal data.
6 – He’d been thinking about this program for years and was disappointed that Obama did not scale it back.
7 – A smart guy would take the opportunity before to find every incriminating bit of information about the players he could.
8 – He may have been able to find Donald Young’s email address, Rev. Wright’s address, Reggie Love’s address, the email of the Perkins law-firm, Bill Ayers….
9 – A smart guy would have packages of information placed with several media people in case something happened to him.

I really hope he’s as smart as I think he is.

When all of our elected leaders and legions of unelected bureaucrats have collectively abandoned all pretext of being proAmerican? I don't know that this guy is a hero but I don't think he's the biggest villian in this story. I was reading one of my kid's textbooks once and found a phrase that said we owe allegiance to our government. Too many people believe that.

This is a BIG deal. With the IRS targeting political opponents, the EPA waiving fees for their friends, DOJ punishing whistle blowers, imagine how bad it will be if NSA targets people who question actions of president. When a General in Afghanistan said it was not going so well over there, poof out comes his private emails? When Petreaus gets a little out of line, poof out comes evidence of an affair? I heard these allegations last night in an interview with former NSA whistle blowers. They also alleged that NSA could provide opposition research for elections. Imagine that. Who would run? Who could run? This could be the end of democracy in the US. The abuse has to stop and effective (nonpartisan) supervision put in place. Think how rich people could become tapping phones of business leaders discussing acquisitions?

The corruption has to be pulled out by the roots. What we have now is the Chicago Obama mob running things. Yes, Mr. Snowden is a hero.
