There were still some Old School pre-Marxist Dems around (Mondale and Muskie come to mind), but Real Guy Patriot Dems like Henry "Scoop" Jackson were no longer nominatable after the Progs busted their move in 1971.
Gore's daddy served on the board of a Communist enterprise. Gore himself adopted the warmed-over Communist platform's "ecology" module as his platform after the 1991 Rio Conference, where he bought the module from Canadian Communist Maurice Strong.
Kerry we know about -- VVAW and all that crap.
John Tunney has been unmasked as a KGB asset in the US Senate. Now we know where that mysterious Russian bug came from, that fell out of a chair one day in a Senate committee room in the Capitol.
Edward Kennedy took part in meetings with Tunney, Communist billionaire Armand Hammer, Anatoliy Dobrynin (the Soviet ambassador) and General Secretary Yuri Andropov -- than whom it was ontologically impossible to be more Communist -- to discuss Soviet cooperation with the Democrats in the 1984 campaign to deny Ronald Reagan a return to office.
About the only Democratic candidates since 1972 who don't profile as either Progs/Stalinists or surrounded by Progs/Communists (Carter) were Mike Dukakis and Mondale. All the rest of them have been eaten up with Communists, either old CPUSA types (Obama) or Vietnam-era New Leftists (Kerry, Gore, Slick, Beastwoman).
