NSA snooping: Necessary defensive tool, or time for a revolution?
Rare.US ^ | June 12, 2013 | Editorial

The fleeing man’s whereabouts are unknown. What fate should befall him when he pops up is an open question depending on whom you ask. “Hero. Traitor. Whistle-blower. Spy. What to call NSA Leaker Ed Snowden?” asked ABC News on Monday night. The battle lines are being drawn in the scandal over the National Security Agency (NSA) vacuuming up private information on millions of ordinary, everyday Americans. Unlike most controversies in the nation’s capital, the belligerents in this showdown don’t fall into predictable partisan camps.

Liberal California Sen. Dianne Feinstein sounds outright hawkish when she declares of Mr. Snowden that, “What he did was an act of treason,” and insists of the NSA activities, “It’s called protecting America.” This is novel positioning for a senior member of her party. In recent decades, Democrats have typically defended those who divulged government secrets at the expense of defense and intelligence operations, and that is still – for the most part – true. Today, however, the lion’s share of overt intra-party division on the leaking issue is on the Republican side of the aisle.

Time to disband the NSA and repeal the PATRIOT act.

Where are we in Revelation?

No where.

At the Final Battle we simply don’t exist, or have been rendered irrelevant.

Every business owner in America, steadfastly, and in unison, refusing to submit withholding tax payments to the IRS.

That would bring them down in about fifteen days.

Every time a Democrat gets in office, the focus turns to Domestic Terrorism. It happened during Clintoon with PATCON and it’s happening again under Obama. Our current Admin has already stated the international war on terror is over. Considering his speeches and dialogue, the focus is obviously on domestics.

Remember the leaked DHS memo labeling practically everyone who disagree’s with Democrat politics as a terrorist? All of the pieces are fitting into place. The Obama Whitehouse is turning the Federal Gov against what it considers it’s enemies. We are the enemy. The Republicans are going along, hoping they get the keys when it comes their turn.

If I had the power, the money, and the influence, I would put together an organization and recruit service level employee’s from across the country to start spying on our politicians. If they want access to our secrets and private lives, we should have the same access to theirs. I would start in DC and recruit waiters, cabbies, limo drivers, hotel workers, and call girls to report everything these people do at all times of the day. If Gov can spy on us, we should be able to spy on them, especially while they are in public places. Want to motivate John Boner or perhaps just annoy him? Stick a cameraman outside his home and record his and his family and their every move. These are public figures and we need our own citizen run paparazzi. Consider it payback. The laws are on the books and if they want celebrity status and exemption from the rule of law, they get to pay for it with having their lives exposed. If we cant be secure in our lives and our secrets, neither should they.

Or Iran, or North Korea, or the tallyban, or more likely, we simply implode, we’re so busy with our own devastated economy and civil wars (wars plural) that the events in the ME don’t even make the news here.

That opportunity has passed us. Not one has stepped up to the plate. What will cause it will be an overt action on a passively assembling group not acceding to, and resisting, a federal demand, according to Amdmt 1 and/or 2. Concord. Lexington. Where liberals have taken over the holy ground.

I don't think it's the data collection so much that's a problem - it's being collected at the original source as a matter of everyday business, and for good reason. If a revolution is necessary it will be because those entrusted with it have succumbed to the temptation to abuse it for purposes of political or social control. And unfortunately that is a genuine and present danger: information of nearly equal sensitivity, IRS tax records, is also guarded by gatekeepers and these have openly and unashamedly betrayed their trust with no consequences at all.

That puts the NSA data in the category of too dangerous to entrust to anyone, which is unfortunate, because there are certainly beneficial uses for it. Where there are no penalties for its abuse, and I mean actual penalties, not simply something on the books that might be used for selective enforcement should the administration care to; where there are no penalties, there should be no access.

Put crudely, I want bodies hanging over the IRS affair all the way to the top or the NSA program needs to be canceled. It is NOT improper to conflate the two, it is entirely and specifically appropriate.

NSA chief Gen. Keith Alexander is one of the witnesses at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on enduring cybersecurity threats. He takes questions on recent leaks revealing the extent of domestic phone surveillance by the NSA.

Should be interesting, in less than 30 minutes, on CSPAN3 of course.
