A Texas high school principal threatened to sabotage a valedictorians appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy after the student delivered a speech that referenced God and the U.S. Constitution, Fox News has learned.
Hiram Sasser, director of litigation with the Liberty Institute, said Joshua High School principal Mick Cochran threatened to write a letter to the U.S. Naval Academy disparaging the character of Remington Reimer. It was intimidating having my high school principal threaten my future because I wanted to stand up for the Constitution and acknowledge my faith and not simply read a government approved speech, the teenager said. Sasser is now representing the teenager and is calling for the Joshua Independent School District to issue a public statement exonerating him of any wrongdoing. He said the speech was edited and reviewed by four different school officials including an officer in the JROTC. Sasser said the censorship violated federal and state laws.

When are we going to abolish government education and put an end to petty little Kinder Gestapo agents like this punk.
“...and not simply read a government approved speech.”
I like the way this young man talks - says it all in just a few words.
All I can say is wow, unbelieveable some petty bureaucrat wants to take this approach. He should be happy this is not my son.
I guess this principle must not like his job. This might fly in California or New York, but he’s going to find Texas is far less forgiving of his antics.
Sasser is kinda’ showing himself in a bad light. The service academies are all into that “honor and integrity” stuff.
If he presented a speech to the school that was approved - and then he read a different speech - it might be said that he lied.
Sasser? I meant the student who gave the speech.

Tell the liberal geek administrator:
“All behavior has consequences, so you do whatever you want to do.”
Yep, it’s obvious the kid has no integrity. Pull his appointment to Annapolis immediately. Pull his HS graduation, too.
The principal is very clearly in the right here.
Hmmmm, a public school principal who doesn’t believe in the First Amendment to the Constitution. What a surprise.
LOL - wait and see, not everyone will get the sarcasm. Why anyone puts their children in public school is beyond me.
On behalf of all clear thinking Texas school administrators - active and retired - I am embarrassed and furious over Cochran’s asinine, childish, vindictive and petty behavior. What an ass and I apologize to all donkeys and mules for lumping them in with this figgin’ idiot. His sorry butt better be in the superintendent’s office for a serious attitude adjustment. If not, I hope the kid sues the whole damn district and cleans them out!
“Mick Cochran threatened to write a letter to the U.S. Naval Academy disparaging the character of Remington Reimer.”
If this is true, shame on Principal Cochran, and shame on whoever hired him in the first place.
Whatever speech the kid gave, and whatever school rules he may or may not have broken, threatening this young man’s future is grossly disproportionate and the act of a petty tyrant.
Didn’t say that - but I did point out the one thing all of you missed - he lied.
Honor Concept of the United States Naval Academy
“Midshipmen are persons of integrity: They stand for that which is right.
They tell the truth and ensure that the full truth is known. They do not lie.
They embrace fairness in all actions. They ensure that work submitted as their own is their own, and that assistance received from any source is authorized and properly documented. They do not cheat.
They respect the property of others and ensure that others are able to benefit from the use of their own property. They do not steal.”
This young man could be a poster boy for the Honor Concept.
Sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the politically correct twits at the Academy withdrew this young man’s appointment...
I know what I’d do if this was my son...
By your logic this nation was founded by liars and cheats.
I bet we are of one mind on this one!
If the kid had the courage of his convictions he would have presented the speech he wanted to give and said “Let me give it as is or pull me as speaker.”
By the way - did you ever graduate from the Q course?
First thing, locate the nastiest, cut throat, crotch fighting lawyer in the state...
I was always taught your principal was your pal.
Not anymore, if you beliebe in God and the Constitution.
You’d be having a beer with the chief of police while “the accident” happens.
How so in the Honor category?
He presented a speech that was approved and then gave another.
No, he did not lie. Neither did he put the school or the district in a legal bind. He talked about the US Constitution. Whoever edited out his submitted text is either on a personal agenda binge or is a graduate of the National Enquirer School of Law. It is upside down thinking to blame the kid. Thinking like that would have told Frankiln, Jefferson, Washington et al to just “sit down and be sweet, ok?”.
He just changed his mind...our PINO does it all the time.
Y’all need to know that this guy rates right up yonder on folks that just need a good old azz whuppin. We still do that from time to time in Texas.
From the article
“.......Reimer, a senior at Joshua High School, made national headlines on June 6 when officials cut off his microphone in mid-speech after he strayed from pre-approved remarks and began talking about his relationship with Jesus Christ......”
After 5 years of Obama controlling senior-level appointments and promotions, and an anticipated three and a half more years of him, do not count on the service academy commander acting according to honor and integrity.
Obama and his cronies WILL make note of how this is handled.
I will have to agree with you on that one.
Turn the problem over to a professional...
I think that is exactly what happened in this case. The student clearly violated a rule the institution thought important. The school has the authority to enforce that particular rule, its action was not arbitrary or a deprivation of the student's right to free speech.
Most of us realize service schools and the military at large are all about rules, most especially when it comes to training its officers. As argued elsewhere on this forum, such a student should not be surprised if his appointment to a military academy is given a second consideration.
Public education these days is, above all, about compliance. The ‘best’ students are the compliant ones.
In this case, it looks like a rebel got through the system.
“How so in the Honor category?”
“Midshipmen are persons of integrity. They stand for what is right.”
And, BTW, Mids take the same oath of office as all military officers: :...to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic...”
They do not take an oath to roll over when some jacka$$ school administrator tries to restrict thought.
Looks like a real pissant
Without defending the high school principal in this, I have to ask if this student graduates from the Naval Academy then what is he going to do if he is given an order he doesn’t like?
If you’re going to correct someone’s spelling, I “beliebe” you’d better be pretty sure of your own first. ;)
Apples v Oranges! The Annaoplis grad takes an oath to follow orders. Last time I checked thesame was not required to graduate from high school. Additionally, “I was just following orders” is not a defense when the order is illegal or immoral, oath or no oath.
It might be said that someone didn’t read the article.
So he lied to the school.
How would you feel if you went to the graduation and the speaker was a Muslim who had a preapproved speech that he threw in the trash as he stepped up to the mic - and then proceeded to give a half hour speech on Mohammed and Koran.
Would he be given the same Free Speech support here on FR?
See my post # 8.
If he did that to my kid I would spend a while in jail after I beat his ares. He looks to be a poofer anyways or drunk.
“I have to ask if this student graduates from the Naval Academy then what is he going to do if he is given an order he doesnt like?”
An order he doesn’t like,,such as spy on US citizens in violation of the 4th Amendment? Like fire on TEA protesters? Like arrest TEA leaders under NDAA for criticizing the dear leader? Like ensure the trains full of Jews are given priority?
Zee orders must alvays be followed!/
Me thinks this Mick Cochran dude needs a poke in the nose and swift kick in the ass, out the door of the school never to return.
You have the choice of getting up and calling him/her down or leaving in droves. You are not chained to the chair. I don’t recall where anyone in this story left.
That is the risk you take ever time you attend any event where someone speaks. I have stood up in political speeches being given and walked out muttering contention as I went.
