The FBI has shrugged off growing congressional anxiety over its surveillance of US citizens, claiming such programs could have foiled the 9-11 terrorist attacks and would prevent "another Boston".
The FBI director, Robert Mueller, also revealed that US authorities would be taking action against whistleblower Edward Snowden for revealing the extent of its activities, confirming that the FBI and department of justice were taking "all necessary steps to hold the person responsible".
But Mueller's testimony before the House judicial oversight committee brought angry responses from many congressmen, who questioned whether such surveillance was lawful and demanded to know why it had failed to prevent the Boston bombing if it were so effective.
In a frequently heated debate over balancing privacy and security, Mueller went further than other government officials in claiming that the collection of data on all American phone calls had become an essential part of counter-terrorism efforts and would make the US "exceptionally vulnerable" if watered down.

Also, the government claims it can't track down phone spammers who regularly violate telemarketing laws, but the NSA spy data certainly would expose them instantly.
Funny how Mr. Mueller says the spying could have stopped the 9/11 attack, but fails to mention all the other cases where by his own test the spying should have stopped an attack or allowed the government to enforce laws it says it can't enforce.

When Clinton learned Able Danger worked by working out patterns to terrorist attacks to stop future terrorist attacks, the same way they work out patterns to stop a serial killer, Clinton ended Able Danger.

So would enforcing visa laws. So would profiling murderous muslime ba—ards at airports and other locales. So would a commitment to bombing these barbarians back to their caves.
In other words, there are LEGAL and acceptable ways to prevent these acts. Ways that don’t demand the sacrifice of liberty or wholesale disregard for the Constitution.
Which is why the obama administration has not even considered them.

After listening to Mueller’s multiple grillings yesterday it’s apparent the man has no concept of what is going on within the FBI.
He doesn’t know who is leading particular investigations, the size or scope of the investigations or what has been accomplished. He only knows that a couple months prior to the Boston bombings the FBI went into a few mosques as a part of the FBI’s Outreach program.
How does he know they could stop anything? According to his own testimony he knows nothing. This guy is the intelligence community’s version of Seargent Schultz.
But let him and others continue to violate our constitutional protections and he’ll no doubt get it all figured out. ROTFL

Yeah, it the 9/11 attackers had been White grandmothers talking about recipes on the telephone. What a crock! The 9/11 hijackers were already in place for 3 years, and communicated with no one. They were a separate cell group operating independently, as the 9/11 commission has told us. They were here on falsified passports, had jobs, even took flying lessons here in the US. And the US policy was no profiling of Muslim Arab men between 17-49 years old, because CAIR would file a lawsuit against the US. So. no, the current spy tactics would not have stopped them. besides, Obama clearly has placed wiretapping Muslim Mosques, the breeding ground for terrorism, off limits and no racial profiling of Muslims. So the terrorists have a free ride to terrorize us
