Verizon reportedly set up a fiber-optic line linked directly to the US government.

The Cashing In panel weighed in on this controversial discovery today.

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

Business Insider reported on the fiber-optic line:

James Risen and Eric Lichtblau of The New York Times — who won a Pulitzer Prize in 2005 for this story on the NSA gaining the cooperation of U.S. telecommunications companies to obtain backdoor access to customer data — mentioned a detail from 2007 (emphasis ours):

In Virginia, a telecommunications consultant reported, Verizon had set up a dedicated fiber-optic line running from New Jersey to Quantico, Va., home to a large military base, allowing government officials to gain access to all communications flowing through the carrier’s operations center.

But I’m sure they only used it when they had a warrant. LOL

It’s amazing that ATT-the other big carrier-doesn’t take advantage of the situation. My guess is that ATT is guilty too.

A LOT of data for Obama and the DNC and al Qaeda
WITH ALL THE ISLAMIC and terrorist (and probably
narcoterrorist and mob) data removed.

The Soviets would’ve cut off their right *** for this technology.

My late father’s job at Southern Bell in the 1960’s and early 70’s was tapping phones at the frame in Florida. He retired from the USMC in 1965 as a commo chief so he was a shoo-in.

Part of the "arrangement" is if you disclose that this is happening you can and will be jailed.

Verizon can more-or-less safely discuss that which they did not reveal. I'd be willing to bet there's still a lot Verizon won't dare be first to mention.

You can be certain AT&T and every other carrier is under similar constraints.

You can be certain that the obama administration has access to every electron used in communication anywhere it can.

Knowledge is power...

There was a time when I thought it’d be Sarah Palin wielding Thor’s Hammer. Now, I’m not so sure.

Do people even want liberty and freedom anymore?

It seems they give up so much so easily.

Although nothing would surprise me at his point, I am sort of skeptical that this is being portrayed in the right context.

That Verizon had a "direct fiber optic link to the Government" is no surprise at all... after all, this is what Verizon DOES; it is one of their business products. My company has a direct fiber optic link to Verizon... AND Time Warner AND AT&T. These are all carriers who provide these services. Fiber links are really no different than the old ISDN , Frame-Relay or T1's we all used to use (including government) other than they are much faster. Those circuits are how companies (and government) link all of their facilities together and share data with the outside world... internet access, email, websites, etc.

So, while this has the potential to be a story, I'm just not so sure it is being painted fairly or not... it could be that this is nothing more than a simple WAN circuit. Does anyone have any more detailed information that would show otherwise?

Yes, but ATT has only been working with the government like that for... 75 years or so. It's a secret they never bothered hiding.

So any time any of us Verizon users admitted to a crime or threatened an official or revealed something in our past, they have it on file. All of it.
