Is Scott Walker the GOP's Sleeper Presidential Candidate?
National Journal ^ | June 17, 2013 | Beth Reinhard

Posted on 06/17/2013 6:02:28 AM PDT by libstripper

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker polls near the bottom of would-be presidential contenders. Unlike potential rivals, you won't find him on the cover of Time magazine or slow-jamming the news with comedian Jimmy Fallon.

But he's a conservative Republican who won election in a blue state, survived a brutal recall campaign, and now posts approval ratings over 50 percent. A budget-slashing chief executive and son of a Baptist minister who straddles the fiscal and social conservative camps. A proven fundraiser who has put his thumb in the eye of President Obama and Big Labor.

Look where gravitas has got us. I’ll take a “gravitas-less” Palin or Walker any day.

That's a sure loser. I think most independents vote for whoever looks the smartest.

Our next president needs to know how to wield and axe.

He needs to lead the Tea Party and Republican members to a dismantling of our government.

We should be left with about 25% of what we have today on the government payroll.

We need to get off our citizens and businesses backs.

Anything else, and we are just caretakers for the American Left.

I’m not here to talk down Walker. I admired the way he handled himself in his home state. It was inspiring.

The problem is, ruling the nation is a lot different than ruling a state. There is a whole new set of problems. Sadly those problems do flesh out the winners and the losers.

A person can look great when it comes to a few issues in his home state, and then look terrible when it comes to the issues that face the nation.

I may or may not be able to support Walker for President as we move into the future. I’ll have to wait and see.

I do know right now, I don’t want another Bush anywhere near the helm of our nation. The RNC can go —— itself if it dares try put one of them into the oval office again.

Frankly, the Republican party leadership has all but destroyed the party in my eyes.

The GOPe is something I despise.

What is known about Walker other than his successful fights against unreasonable union demands and state spending? People thought Chris Cristi was great while he bashed the unions in NJ.

More information is needed. Would it be shocking if, on other issues, he is very similar to Paul Ryan and Reince Prebus?

Walker will continue to be burdened with an excess of RINOs ~ remember Wisconsin is only recently emerging from the leftwingtard swamps, and although Ryan and Priebus might seem conservative by Wisconsin standards, they just don't cut it on the national stage ~ and, in 2012, both lost big time!~

If we want to win we need to provide the Republican voters with red meat Conservatives. No more RINOs. No more mamby pambies.

LOL

You know, it’s very therapeutic to have an object like the Yugo around to denigrate.

That was funny.

I used to love the polock jokes. I never connected the label ‘polock’ to the polish. The jokes were just hilarious. It was like you were using a widget name like moron. Then PC took over and we couldn’t have that any longer.

The only candidate want for President is Sarah Palin. She has been vetted by the media, the GOPe hate her and she has said or done nothing that makes me think of her other than a true Conservative candidate.

I am not even sure about Ted Cruz.

Yep, we need to run a conservative... and quit taking ‘advice’ from liberals.

Liberals run the most liberal person they can find and get their based fired up.

They tell us not to offend... meaning that the more conservative the more offensive. That’s sooooo insulting. And our idiots in Washington - the McCain types believe it because it’s how they feel too.

Time to show them how we can win ... by running a real conservative.

I put "gravitas" in quotes because of the joke the word became in the first "W" election when the Rats claimed Bush lacked "gravitas".

But, in reality, and like it or not, there IS weight put on the word by the political molders of public opinion....plus the handlers and managers of political candidates.

It's said that both Cheney and Gore were put on tickets as veep candidates to lend a little "mature" weight, experience and "gravitas" to their respective presidential nominees.

In the history of the relative handful of important feminine world leaders and would-be world leaders, powerful women such as Margaret Thatcher, Gold Meir and Indira Gandhi benefitted from the perception of having "gravitas".....Hillary Clinton, Geraldine Ferraro, Sarah Palin, Angela Merkel....not so much.

Nothing in a personal sense for or against any of these individuals or historical figures, just analyzing the word "gravitas".....plus commenting on the ways of the world when its citizens weigh the traits and personalities of leaders they want to support or not support.....and, like it or not, the much-maligned word "gravitas" DOES enter into countless deliberations of whom to vote for.

Does Walker consider himself akin to the Tea Party? He doesn’t appeal much to me yet although he is a fighter......and the right needs one in a bad bad way.

He isn’t vetted on the bedeviling issues.

You're right, but IMHO he gets lots of bonus points for
IMPLEMENTING
conservatism, especially after defeating a highly focused liberal opposition in a purple state.

As best as we know, he is everything Sarah Palin is, but Walker has been battle tested on policy rather than personal issues.
