If the feds wanted to “get him” immediately, they probably could have done so already. The crime syndicates in Hong Kong could find anyone there quickly, not that our fine and honest government would ask them. The real question is whether Snowden has things in his head that would REALLY be bad for China to know. Then his life is indeed in danger.

He went to a country that has an interest in keeping him alive, for now.

Which is better than the US at the moment.

Well yes, there's that... the 'keeping alive' thing...

Does Snowden have audio of Obama? What about audio or video of Obama being his true gay self? How about a real “the emperor has no clothes” moment?

We know the NSA has audio of Obama -and the former Russian President... wonder if this is some kind of trade-off?

also if it is dumped all at once things will get lost in the forest of information. He is playing it out correctly. My guess is this guy is sharp. He has already put in place triggers if something happens to him. My guess also he will make this a giant cluster for these senators. My bet is they will not be able to out think him on this..... My bet is they are paralyzed.

The disillusioned are the most dangerous to any regime they are generally the first to get eliminated.

If it is “already known”, then what is his traitorous harm? Specify clearly please.

Agreed. Snowden needs time for this thing to outlive stuff the Administration can try to drum up, stories about his girlfriend, etc., as well as the normal interruptions (ie., other legit news stories that crop up.) He also simply needs time for this thing to build, perhaps getting people like William Binney more public exposure, and so on.

Well, good Lord, if you were doing work for THIS gov't, and found what you believed to be major wrongdoing, you'd try to expose it without getting the best legal help you could round up? And people say Snowden is naive...?

That said, I was following that chat live for a while, and some of the answers came back pretty quickly, not to mention reading fairly spontaneously, IMO. Like that bit about Presidents investigating themselves after the fact -- what lawyer would add that?

What the heck are you doing on FR if you don’t question THIS government’s intentions?

Yes, and when it started, a lot of us, though uncomfortable, thought Bush was, relatively, a “small government guy” and that he would not take it too far. Plus I personally thought the program(s), since they did have to be renewed periodically, would wither eventually, as conservatives became increasingly skeptical, joining voices with some on the left. Can’t say that was a good judgement of mine...

Then Obama put the whole thing on steroids.

Again, I disagree. Snowden has been able to get some of the young ‘uns, who’d otherwise not listen, to start paying attention. In the long run this could be crucial, but it sure won’t help if these young people’s new found concern is run into the dirt.

Yes, and I would also guess that there are enough Euro looking people in HK that Snowden won’t stick out like a sore thumb. Plus HK also has a reasonably good legal system, as I understand it, so Snowden can fight a legal battle there and not be as concerned with a judge being paid off, as in many other places.

Did I say that? No.

But I sure as heck didn’t need Snowden to outline what the governments been doing...I’ve been around plenty long enough to see it....and I sure as heck don’t want to see an American, sitting in Communist Country spilling our intellegence to the world...which is what he is doing.

This has long past “revealing”...this guy is on a mission...revealing intelligence about China at the very time the Pres. had it’s first meeting with the new Chinese leader? Then the Uk tells it’s Airlines not to board Snowden..so he retaliates by interfering with the G-8 Summit.

This isn’t about “informing the American people what’s going on”...it’s way beyond that now.

How do you know it was Snowden responding? How do you know it wasn’t? His legal counsel is what..Chinese? Americans? We don’t know...and that makes him all the more a risk.

There were plenty other avenues Snowden could have gone , even his mother stated so, and she works for the government. His father too.....

I sure as heck would not have gone to a Communist Country...,that has no freedoms/ few civil rights, and squawk about the what’s happening in the my country concerning national security issues.... Not ever!

BTW I have family members working for the Gov. I well know he had other options....this guy wants the glory and the show...and has another agenda in mind. I have my opinions on that but as with opinions..they are a dime a dozen.

They're waiting for him to hang himself..which he is doing...not to mention it's a International situation with him in China...if indeed that is where he is...I tend to think, the sneak that he is, he's more than likely somewhere else entirely. But this makes for Him a great Espionage story.

Any country would love to have their hands on him about this...and more than willing to keep him hidden til they get the goods....

The Guaradian’s making out pretty good too...they have a great following now. Sort like Beck when he has his next great news to tell.
