In a defeat for Republican leadership, the House on Thursday rejected a sweeping farm bill, amid opposition from both sides of the aisle.

More than 60 House Republicans defected and voted against the half-trillion-dollar bill, which sets funding for farm subsidies and other assistance as well as food stamps.

The vote was 234-195 against the bill.

The democrats didn’t support it because of the food stamp cuts and other stuff that I’ve seen this week. They won’t let a dime be cut.

We are living in scary ass times.

We’re on such polar opposite sides from the progressives.

We want everything cut and they want nothing cut.

"Maybe congress is finally in a mood to fight"

Since 62 GOPers abandoned the party and voted no, and only 24 dems abandoned their party and voted yes, I would say the fight is in the GOP.

Now we’ll see if Boehner forces some RINOs to go along with a more conservative bill- good for America and for the Party, or allows them to force a more generous one.

The House bill to be voted on later has $17 B MORE in food stamp cuts than this bill today.

My bet is it will pass the House pretty much on party lines.

Democrats defeated the bill:

Crimeny, 2 supposedly Conservative pubbies (Graves and Hartzler) from Missouri voted for this monstrosity and a rabid race baiting liberal from Missouri (Cleaver) voted against it.

Nobody with an eye for smaller government should have voted yes to this thing. This is an indication of exactly he how screwed this country is. I am about two shakes from completely checking out of politics, at this point.

don’t know what dent corn is.
but i would like to outlaw ethanol because it has ruined my lawn mower, weed eaters, power wagon, powerwasher and 91 ford pickup. No one told me not to buy that mess. But I have now found pure gas and have twenty plus gallons saved up of real gasoline. Don’t get me started.

“We’re on such polar opposite sides from the progressives.

And yet the leadership depends on democrats to get something passed, instead of finding out what the conservatives want and put it in the bill to be passed. But the leadership and the conervatives are also at odds, the leadership for the most part, is with the democrats and those pesky conservatives keep ruining the bipartisanship and everything.

You want the government to outlaw ethanol? Why doesn’t it just outlaw methane or carbon or mean thoughts?

This bill was a nightmare.

It was 80 PERCENT FOOD STAMPS.

They need to seprate out the food stamps from the bill and subsidies being sent to big agro business too

The Democrats wanted to spend even more—but that doesn’t mean killing the bill wasn’t a good thing.
