I don’t know why, put the Netflix show “House of Cards” comes to mind; the character Claire Underwood (played by Robin Wright), who runs a non-profit.

When the PC wusses at the NFL have their players were pink this fall, do they really want to publicize their support for the baby killers at Planned Parenthood?

Back when all this was going on, I did a little surfing and tried to see just what SGK was doing.
I went to their site and honestly, the only thing I took away from it was fund raising. I saw no indications of how much, where they were funding anything with respect to breast cancer research. Plenty of stuff about how to donate, but nothing substantive about where those funds went.
I did find various links that gave the salaries of the primary officers - hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for more than a decade back.
SGK claimed they were only funding awareness and testing services at Planned Parenthood, yet at the time of the claim, not one PP location had a mammogram machine.
They spend the majority of their time collecting money with heart tugs and “Three Days” (which they separate out from SGK using threeday.org or similar with nothing said about SGK that I could see on the site, now).
In my opinion, it is just another ripoff scam organization whose sole business is raising cash.

What this whole mess shows abundantly is that the pro-choice wing of the Democratic Party cares more about abortion than saving womens lives.
I'm not sure, never have been, that this is it. I really think it was about money.
The thing with Komen struck me more as an opportunity for the Left to send a clear message about how organizations that decide to leave the Liberal plantation are going to be dealt with.
There's a LOT of money that gets passed around between Liberal organizations. IMHO it amounts to money laundering. Once an organization ends up inside the money cycle (possibly even by coercion) they simply can't be allowed to leave. Even if the specific amount of money is small (as it was with Komen) permitting even one org to exit would send a signal to other organizations that they can exit as well. The initial "loss" can easily be replaced, but it can quickly turn into a torrent that CAN'T be replaced.
It's like the mob with extortion money. Allow one person/business to successfully stand up to you and pretty soon a LOT more people/businesses are going to think that they can do the same. And then NO ONE will be willing to pay up.
It would be really nice if the FBI were to investigate the money links between Liberal orgs under various organized crime/RICO statutes. But that's never going to happen ...

I did the 3day in 2009 and 2011. I signed up for 2012 as soon as the announcement was made that SGK was defunding PP. When they caved, I didn’t do the fund raising but I did some training with my team. I’m walking this morning (6 miles) with them. Some of them have been doing the 3day for 8 years. Something like half of the walks have been canceled for 2014. They are talking about doing the Avon walk next year. Avon has a great web site. You can see where all the money goes. I didn’t see any money going to PP. I would welcome feedback on Avon.

Leftists are parasitical and look at charities as cash cows. They weasel in and take over. Collected funds line their pockets and they change the focus from directly helping to lobbying government to fund there agenda. After that they take their place in the Leftist web of dependency.
Look hard before you give.

Fascinating and troubling read. Amazing the power Planned Parenthood has and how ruthless the pro-abort side is. Really makes you appreciate the pro-life organizations. It truly is a war being fought out there.

Lefties have overtaken The Audubon Society, the Sierra Club, The Humane Society of the US, and most all societies claiming to be for the benefit of animals and the environment. Only problem is that the majority of the money goes to the DNC or individuals. The Audubon Society got my attention when they made massive donations to Al Gore in 2000. Lefties take over the Non profit organizations then perversely direct the money to the DNC.

Komen was simply the last of a long line of “non-profit” advocacy groups that became a major industry unto itself and lost sight of its original mandate. It happens all the time, and it’s amazing how much money can be made in these “non-profit” groups.

It’s always interesting when feminist Piranhas wear their self-loathed breasts on their sleeve and then expect everyone to bow down and worship them — and how, despite shaving their heads and wearing pink shirts on Thursday, their Idolatry will never change the NATURE of things - SINGLY OR COLLECTIVELY.

First of all...I have no interest in breast cancer.None whatsoever.Same with uterine, cervical and ovarian cancer. And prostate and testicular cancer too.I care about *cancer* whether it strikes men or women, black or white, young or old.The fact that Komen currently cooperates/has cooperated with Planned Barrenhood means that they wouldn't get a nickel from me regardless.

While I am all for healthy breasts, I must note that the 800 lb gorilla in the room is a study linking abortion and breast cancer.
It indicated at least a correlation which showed that a woman who had had an abortion was more than twice as likely to have breast cancer as one who had not had an abortion.
How Komen could in any way fund Planned Parenthood has been beyond me for a long time.

a study linking abortion and breast cancerMany studies, indicating not only correlation but causation, and at least one major meta-analysis indicating a very significant increase in cancer risk following abortion.

Sadly, then, an organization founded to fight breast cancer is now supporting an organization which helps cause it.
That was the part I found so difficult to reconcile, and I had applauded Komen's cutting off Planned Parenthood funding.
It is a pity they did not bring out those studies and use them as the reason they cut off funding--something which might have been a great service to the very women they claimed to want to help.
