Christine Todd Whitman was governor then, and apparently she didn't lower the flags for Sinatra, or for that many other occasions.

Christie has ordered the flags lowered to half-mast for the passing of many people, including former Congressmen, police officers, and military personnel.

But then we weren't at war during Whitman's tenure.

The honor and respect earned that justifies flying the flag at half-staff has gone the way of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The governor has the power to direct the flags to be at half-staff. In using his power, the Governor diminished all previous honorees just as Obama’s Peace Prize demised all previous recipients.

The question now is how many days will this individual and his accomplishments be honored?

Well, aren't you special. Had you watched the show, you would have seen a Shakesperean drama set in present day in a well-to-do suburb of New York, and all the machinations of power, lust, money, violence, fear and love, played by a superb cast

For the record, I missed out on The Sopranos not because I had a problem with the subject matter. Heck, I regard Goodfellas as one of the greatest films ever made!

Nope, I missed out on The Sopranos because, quite simply, I didn't have HBO. I'd like to try and catch it on DVD if I can ever find the time.

Having said that, I don’t believe that we should be lowering any flag to half staff for any actor.

Why not? We lower it for politicians. Whitney Houston made the world a far better place than Ted Kennedy ever did and at least she didn't kill anyone.
