With confusion and concern looming over Mississippi’s new gun law set to kick in July 1, businesses are reminded of their rights in relation to the “Open Carry” legislation.
House Bill 2, approved by Gov. Phil Bryant in March, is being referred to as the open carry law because gun owners will now have fewer concealment regulations.
"HB 2 set out to redefine what a concealed weapon is," said Cleveland Police Chief Buster Bingham. "If the law holds up, any person can carry a weapon on their belt as long as it's holstered. It doesn't need to be hidden or obscured.”
Also written in the bill’s language is that citizens may carry with or without concealed carry permits — any law-abiding citizen over 18 years of age may ‘holster carry' in the open if done in a non-threating and otherwise lawful manner.

If businesses don't want customers who carry, there's always another store or restaurant down the block that does. Maybe 5 - 10 percent of businesses around liberal Phoenix have signs.
As far as jewelry stores are concerned, that's where I think I've seen the most people carrying openly - behind the counter.
I still think the most important aspect of open carry is that it prevents people from being harassed or even arrested from not successfully carrying concealed. I've heard horror stories from other states about people actually being arrested because someone saw their weapon. It gets warm here. T-shirts "print" quite easily. Even if someone isn't carrying openly, it's not uncommon to see the butt of their weapon showing through their clothing.
Will have my.45 on my side next Monday. Wish I could a colt and a gunslinger belt with a strap on the leg but that might be overkill

They have done better than a lot of people thought. I love my DAWGS even if they lose. State has some new billboards going up around the state. My cousin and her family are up there and a dorm friend and her family are there, too. The grandmother of one of the players is a girl I went to school with back in the good ole days. I wonder if she is there. GO DAWGS.
While I am all for this open carry law, I have yet to see anyone offer an explanation of why CONCEALED CARRY is a “bad thing.”

Concealed Carry makes it a bit of a mystery who’s going to be able to shoot back ~ which I guess diverts potential assailants in a different direction. Open Carry or Constitutional Carry as some are referring to it for guns (rather than cans of suds) leaves little to the imagination.
Concealed carry is not a bad thing, it’s a good thing. Our problem in Mississippi is that we have ONE statewide elected democrat, our Attornet General. Like most democrats he is obviously against the People’s God given right to keep and bear arms. If a firearm was inadvertantly seen you were considered to be brandishing, democrats working overtime to make law abiding citizens lawbreakers. Actually this law just reinforces our Constitution of 1890 which gave us the right to open carry but neede legislative permission to carry concealed. The AG was trying to circumvent our Constitution and legislature.
I can’t imagine anything unusual happening, based on all the other examples of gun liberty unhindered. The biggest comment will likely be how anticlimactic it all is.
The first to notice will be the police, at the end of the first and second months, when they notice their violent crime stats trending lower in their monthly report.
