WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Incoming Winston-Salem Police Chief Barry Rountree shot a woman in the leg after responding to a dangerous weapon call Wednesday, according to Winston-Salem Police.
Officers responded to a call at 124 North Jackson Ave. around 1:30 p.m, after a 911 caller reported a man was standing on the porch with a large gun pointed at another person.
Rountree and Officer Mohammed Khan, responded to the scene stationing themselves behind Khan’s vehicle.
“At that time, a medium-sized boxer or boxer mix dog suddenly appeared from the back of the residence located at 114 N. Jackson Avenue,” police said in a news release.
The dog then ran down the driveway toward Rountree and Khan, acting in an “aggressive manner.” Rountree attempted to shoot the dog, but his bullet hit the pavement and struck Tamara Whitt, the homeowner, in the upper left leg instead, according to police.
Whitt was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she was treated and released.
The SBI is investigating the incident, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
Assistant Chief Rountree has been placed on administrative duty, while an investigation is conducted.
His swearing-in will be held as scheduled on June 30, however, Assistant Chief David Clayton will be acting as chief until Rountree returns to full duty.
And this is the type of person liberals feel are the only ones trusted with a gun. How reassuring!

Oh no, yet another idiot cop (soon to be police chief) and his Muslim patrol bud. Frightened by a dog (perhaps they were afraid the dog was going to get saliva on them—a muslim no-no), blast away at the dog and, of course, miss and shoot a female citizen in the leg instead.
Maybe the woman was diss’in them also?
