For Jewish same-sex couples, US court decision a godsend

Jewish gay rights activists on Wednesday welcomed a landmark decision by the US Supreme Court that promises to improve the lives of countless same-sex married couples, including bi-national American-Israeli ones.

All of the Jewish justices — Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan — voted with the majority. Many Jewish groups and organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Reform movement, came out in support of the Court’s decision. Orthodox groups were not in favor of it.

Green cards. Oh great.

Did the three justices call “torah” “torah” “torah” when making their attack on DOMA?

Dumb question for Jewish Freepers out there on this subject:

Are Jewish same-sex couples allowed to "marry" in Israel?

All of the Jewish justices — Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan

One third of the Supreme Court justices are Jewish? Seems rather disproportionate, given the relatively small percentage of Jews in the U.S. population as a whole. How many of the SC justices are Christian, atheist, Muslim, etc.?

Unfortunately, it’s no coincidence that all the Jewish ones are hard-core leftists. What I find even more amazing is that the most conservative justices are the Roman Catholics ... in a nation where Catholics are among the most reliably liberal voters in any area.

I’ve found they are not liberal but they vote (D) like it’s a bad habit. My Grandparents were the same way. Horrified when I tried to tell them what their party had become. They still believed unto their deaths that the democrats were the party of freedom, Christianity and love of country.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) rights in Israel are considered the most progressive in the Middle East and Asia.[1] In November 2005, a groundbreaking court decision in Israel ruled that a lesbian spouse could officially adopt a child born to her current partner by artificial insemination from an anonymous sperm donor; this ruling came despite protests by the minority Orthodox Jewish parliamentary parties. Common law marriage which grants most of the official marriage rights to the spouse has been achieved, but full official same-sex marriage has not yet been sanctioned. However, same-sex marriages performed elsewhere are recognized.

Israel also has one of the highest percentages of support for same-sex marriage in the world, with 61% of Israelis supporting civil marriage for same-sex couples.[2]

Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Cyprus are the only countries in the Middle East[3] where homosexuality between consenting adults in private is not illegal and homosexuals are not persecuted under law. In most other Middle Eastern countries homosexuality is illegal, often punishable by corporal punishment, prison, and even the death penalty. Israel was the first country in Asia where homosexuals were protected by anti-discrimination laws,[4] and remains the only country in the Middle East to provide such legal protection.

Out Magazine has named Tel Aviv “the gay capital of the Middle East.”[5] Tel Aviv is also considered one of the most gay friendly cities in the world[6] and is famous for its annual Pride Parade and gay beach.[7]

In August 2009, an armed attacker shot dead two people and injured 15 more in an attack on a lesbian and gay centre in Tel Aviv.[8] The incident has been deplored by many organizations and government officials, such as the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and President Shimon Peres.

An online poll run by a popular LGBT travel website rated Tel Aviv as the best gay city in 2011

Well to tell the truth, there is the question of buying American.

I have seen quite a contradiction, between the rhetoric of buying American, and the reality, and not by any apparent political support.

Republicans and Democrats both, sell out America.

Republicans and Democrats both, buy Chinese and other foreign made goods at the DROP OF A HAT.

We are currently (as a party, and a nation) selling out our livelihood.

Everyone is selling everything. Except of course, products. Those we are buying from foreign factories.

Enough.

Stop buying imports. Stop selling out America.

Bring back American factories, and American jobs.

The Times of Israel is a left wing rag. Check out the staff at this link and you'll see they don't represent the real Israel. The story is nothing more than anti-Semetic tabloid trash.

Israel - the Land of the Heblew.

Oddly, Jews seem quite good at not understanding what “abomination” meant when it was applied to Heblews.

Are Jewish same-sex couples allowed to "marry" in Israel?

The simple answer is no, but it's more complicated:

1. Israel recognizes gay marriages performed elsewhere. You just have to fly to Europe or the States. Flying to Europe = not a big deal.

2. Israel allows for a kind of common-law gay marriage, not officially registered by the state, but which confers many of the same rights as marriage.

Interesting a homosexual activist lawyer was explaining how “his god” does not see things the way a Baptist ministers God did. Since the Baptist minister is a professed Christian, I am certain his God is Biblical and he is a follower of Jesus Christ. If that is the case who,is this new god of the homosexuals and is this now the God of Israel, they having embraced homosexuality so passionately. If so as a conservative, I need to rethink my support for that country. If they no longer follow the Torah or the Talmud, maybe the Muslims are right about the current State of Israel.

There are no Protestants on the Court (amazingly -- first time this has ever been the case). The conservatives are Catholic, but so is liberal Sotomayor and the "moderates" Kennedy and Roberts.
