The case for polygamy (Why shouldn’t marriage equality apply to them, too?)
Daily Caller ^ | 06/27/2013 | Matt Lewis

Posted on 06/27/2013 8:59:20 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Discussing the Supreme Court’s decision on gay marriage recently, Sen. Rand Paul joked about bestiality. This was unwise. If Paul wanted to make the slippery slope argument, the case for polygamy is much more compelling — and realistic.

This is not some straw man argument. As BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins pointed out, polygamists are, in fact, celebrating the court’s decision. And they have every reason to do so. After all, why shouldn’t marriage equality apply to them, too?

The arguments are essentially the same. For example, Sen. Al Franken recently issued a statement saying, “Our country is starting to understand that it’s not about what a family looks like: it’s about their love and commitment to one another.” Polygamists couldn’t agree more.

I mean, who are we to say that two or three or even four consenting adults — who want to make a lifelong commitment to love one another — shouldn’t be allowed to do so?

What’s magical about the number two?

In fact, you could argue that there is an even better argument for polygamy than for same sex marriage. For one thing, there’s a long tradition (just look at the heroes of the Old Testament.) It’s also intimately tied to religious practice, which means that by prohibiting polygamy, we might also be undermining the “free exercise thereof.”

Why should we impose our values on others?

Now, you might say that there is historical evidence to support the fact that polygamy is bad for women and children. This is sophistry. The truth is that right now about half of all marriages end in divorce, and lots of kids are already struggling, so it’s not like traditional marriage is a panacea. Besides, nobody is forcing you to be a polygamist. This is a choice.

There are practical reasons, too. It’s harder and harder these days to make ends meet. As a man, I can only imagine how much more efficient it would be to have one wife in the workforce and another wife at home with the kids. This would be much better for the children than shipping them off to some nursery school. And having three parents is a lot better than having just one … or none.

So I think we should embrace this new world. This seems like a win/win/win if you ask me.

Polygamy has always existed. Homosexual marriage has never existed. And does not exist.

At least Polygamy is a natural act.

Biblically; so is homosexualism.

The NATURAL man does ALL of these things...

The argument for polygamy is much, much stronger than for homosexual “marriages”.

And the fact that there is an absolute and worsening shortage of boys who have been trained up to be husbands, while the desire to become a wife remains very strong, makes the sexual economics of the situation a re-inforcing principle.

Polygamy will be legalized within 24 months, if not sooner.

Why privilege sexual relationships, other than Sex being the god of our age?

Why should people whose primary attachment is not sexual be denied federal benefits? Everyone is entitled to (at least) one significant other.

Know it well. Most people don't.

How far has our collective ignorance (nurtured by "educational" and media Communist propaganda) spread? I just saw this headline on Beck's "Blaze:"

What is the difference a man having a wife and a mistress and Polygamy

The difference is that the mistress causes heartbreak, divorce, and fatherlessness, while polygamy does not.

If the Democrats think an issue will get them votes, they’re all for normalizing it. So, no beastiality isn’t out of the question.

Somewhere in the Planet Kolob—Joe Smith is smiling. It will be normalized soon—one man and more women— The thing that rallied Americans into hating Mormons in the 19th Century will be struck down. Poligamy will resurface for Islamic people and fundamentalist Mormorns—maybe even all Mormons. I find it less disgusting than “Gay” Sex. Then marriage to girls as young as 12 or maybe in Islamic tradition 5. We have opened a pandora’s Box here. So, Celebrate and dance in the street—But the new day may not be all Unicorns and Rainbows! Things got to change.

I made this argument on FR. Our traditional “ethics basis” for marriage was Judeo-Christian, once you go with gay marriage you’ve basically dumped the “ethics basis” and no anything should go. This is what secularism can’t address. There are *reasons* Judeo-Christian ethics are beneficial to society, it is part of what enabled us to thrive.

For me, the Judeo-Christian basis for marriage has physical results, a major impact on society. We’ve completely lost the reasons “why” a one-man-one-woman marriage is beneficial to our survival, which is what it is really all about. When you consider the spread of disease, kids out of wedlock, (unintentional) inbreeding, etc. - the Judeo-Christian model has a massive effect on these societal ills. It is the ideal standard, more perfect than any other solution for these reasons, but we’ve forgotten. In our prosperous and technologically advanced society we can mitigate and absorb much of the consequences of poor moral choices but only so much. Now, because we’ve forgotten the “why”, we’ve thrown the baby out with the bathwater - anything goes.

From the Republican platform of 1856:

“Resolved: That the Constitution confers upon Congress sovereign powers over the Territories of the United States for their government; and that in the exercise of this power, it is both the right and the imperative duty of Congress to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism—Polygamy, and Slavery. “

Polygamy is still a relic of barbarism.

Brother brother marriage same mother - no real reason not to is there?

Widowed dad marrying single son just to escape inheritance taxes? Spouses get 100% tax free inheritance. Marriage is now a legal means to additional 1000 benefits formally only provided to heterosexual married couples. Also a tax avoidance scheme.

Compared to a couple of male buttlickers spreading disease and vermin to young boys and others, marrying a couple of women is a very tame concern.

Adultery is common but polygamy is frowned on for some reason.

I’m not for polygamy, just wondering why.

For example, I’d marry my adult children for health insurance purposes.

Why?

You get to have them taken care of until they be 27 anyway these days!
