The case for polygamy (Why shouldn’t marriage equality apply to them, too?)
Daily Caller ^ | 06/27/2013 | Matt Lewis

Posted on 06/27/2013 8:59:20 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Discussing the Supreme Court’s decision on gay marriage recently, Sen. Rand Paul joked about bestiality. This was unwise. If Paul wanted to make the slippery slope argument, the case for polygamy is much more compelling — and realistic.

This is not some straw man argument. As BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins pointed out, polygamists are, in fact, celebrating the court’s decision. And they have every reason to do so. After all, why shouldn’t marriage equality apply to them, too?

The arguments are essentially the same. For example, Sen. Al Franken recently issued a statement saying, “Our country is starting to understand that it’s not about what a family looks like: it’s about their love and commitment to one another.” Polygamists couldn’t agree more.

I mean, who are we to say that two or three or even four consenting adults — who want to make a lifelong commitment to love one another — shouldn’t be allowed to do so?

What’s magical about the number two?

In fact, you could argue that there is an even better argument for polygamy than for same sex marriage. For one thing, there’s a long tradition (just look at the heroes of the Old Testament.) It’s also intimately tied to religious practice, which means that by prohibiting polygamy, we might also be undermining the “free exercise thereof.”

Why should we impose our values on others?

Now, you might say that there is historical evidence to support the fact that polygamy is bad for women and children. This is sophistry. The truth is that right now about half of all marriages end in divorce, and lots of kids are already struggling, so it’s not like traditional marriage is a panacea. Besides, nobody is forcing you to be a polygamist. This is a choice.

There are practical reasons, too. It’s harder and harder these days to make ends meet. As a man, I can only imagine how much more efficient it would be to have one wife in the workforce and another wife at home with the kids. This would be much better for the children than shipping them off to some nursery school. And having three parents is a lot better than having just one … or none.

So I think we should embrace this new world. This seems like a win/win/win if you ask me.

Polygamy has been far more prevalent than the recent invention of gay marriage throughout over 6000 years of recorded human history.

I don’t see how you could deny this. This ruling really opens pandora’s box on the family structure in the once great U.S.

It opens the door for Islam’s support of multiple wives along with Mormonism if they want to bring that back.

I think it could even knock down barriers on age limits for relationships.

It’s gonna be a mess.

And all is proceeding as I have predicted. And it took less than 24 hours for the polygamy people to start making comparisons and asking why they can’t have multiple wives? Actually, there is historical precedence for polygamy, unlike homosexual marriage. I have posted previously, that if there is nothing special about marriage being between one man and one woman; then, what is so special about the number two?

If the Democrats think an issue will get them votes, they’re all for normalizing it. So, no beastiality isn’t out of the question.

I don’t know if polygamy will be the next great “civil right movement” with respect to marriage or not. I do know that human nature is such that every limitation will be pushed, and that success breeds further pushing.

There will be many more redefinitions of marriage to come, and all will compete to be the basest, most vile forms of perversions yet. I have no prediction which, because I don’t have the kind of mind that invents that sort of thing. But someone does, and it will come.

Once you begin the process of redefinition, it doesn’t stop until there is any definition is totally meaningless. Goodbye marriage forever.

Matt Lewis is confused. This decision throws open the gates to "marriage" between anyone and anything. It's a legal precedent for polygamy, polyandry, bestiality, pederasty -- any possible combination.

And his rather silly piece overlooks the real motive behind homosexual "marriage:" the total destruction of the institution of marriage itself. Reductio ad absurdam. The United States has "progressed" back to paganism.

Neither is paedophilia.

It’s your kids they’ve wanted all along anyway.

The gay marriage thing was really just a camel’s nose under the tent for paedophilia.

Not trying to be a smart-alec, but not what homo marriage is the law of the land, polygamy is no big deal. At least IMHO, polygamy is within the correct two sexes. If you were to argue for poly-gay marriage, I’d agree that’s a notch lower on the perversion scale.

At least Polygamy is a natural act.

What is the difference a man having a wife and a mistress and Polygamy.

Certainly Polygamy will either be approved in the near future or we will se the hypocrisy of this ruling.

In the 2012 Presidential election where preservation of bible based marriage was an issue.

The democrat candidate's father was a practicing polygamist of a polygamy religion, and the republican candidate was a bishop in a religion where his great grandfather had practiced polygamy, and in fact left America to preserve his church's practice.

I remember reading in the local newspaper (some 15 or more years ago) about some guy here in the US who wanted to marry his car. The court he petitioned turned him down. No joke!

Read this and see how far America has come in fulfilling the Karl Marx (Communist Manifesto).

Obama told us he would change America....Rush Limbaugh said he hoped Obama would fail...Obama has succeeded beyond his and our enemies wildest dreams...We cannot lose the Congress and must take the Senate in 2014.

Pay close attention to the MSM and what they are pushing....rebut where ever you can...(remember) these Americans, 'carry' them with you always...Love and Honor America as never before while this fraud in the White House tries to move Americans to the left and deprive you of your civil rights and your United States Constitution....America First Always! Obamaphiles Be Damned!

Japanese Man Marries Pillow

A 28 year-old man from Japan has fallen in love with and married his ‘dakimakura’, which is a large pillow that usually has the face of an anime character drawn on it. The particular pillow he fell for had a picture of Fate Testarossa, who is a character in the anime series called ‘Magic Girl’.
