If ever I thought myself objective and unbiased, the George Zimmerman trial is definitely not that moment.
So let's cut to the chase. Any attorney, jury member, judge or white person in that courtroom is not going to understand Rachel Jeantel. And I don't expect them to.
In fact, I certainly, like my fellow writer Rachel Samara, understand why white people wouldn't like Rachel.
She's hard. She's black. And your assumptions about her background and lack of education make you feel like you are better, somehow. That her testimony, no matter how powerful and impactful it may be to this trial, is implausible. Weak, maybe? Let's impeach her.
But maybe the reason white people don't understand Rachel Jeantel has something more to do with white privilege then, what they would call, Rachel's capricious nature.
Let's for one second try to understand why Rachel is "angry" (read emotional), "hood" (read blunt), and "unintelligent" (read multilingual).
The thing is, what white people see in Rachel has little to do about her own issues, and more to say about the America that white people are blind to. Let's take her testimony on not calling the police, for example.

Making excuses for the bad or foolish behavior of someone as a consequence of his or her skin color and resulting upbringing is racist on its face.
The soft bigotry of low expectations.
To them, that doesn’t matter. In fact the truth is not as important as standing up for Travon.
I see a liar, I have no idea what this woman sees. Nor do I care.
This was linked on a local newspapers “On the Web” section but I had missed it here.
WOW!!! What a steaming pile of dog vomit!!! Even worse are the comments after the article. Bottom line here is that anything other than a “Guilty” verdict on GZ will result in violence, IMO, and social media will ensure it goes more than just Sanford/Orlando.
” blame others for your failures and dont forget to vote.”
Beautifully stated, and great tag line material!
Humans suck. White people suck.
Underdogma.
All this making excuses for someone who is obviously seething with hostility.
If this is the attitude that Trayvon's good friend has, it strongly suggests to me that Trayvon likely had the same attitude.
His use of "creepy-ass cracker" to describe GZ suggests a racist orientation.
So I see the likelihood of some racial hostility here - not so much on the part of Zimmerman, but on the part of Martin.
Or, in other words, after seeing Rachel Jeantel, it seems all the more likely to me that Martin attacked Zimmerman.
Beware... it's a triple-bagger. ;-D
No punishment was incurred in this place for throwing stuff at their teachers, threatening their teachers with bodily harm, spitting on their teachers, etc. The dean never even returned emails from teachers reporting bad behaviors. Only the TEACHERS were penalized in this surreal monument to liberal insanity. I never saw anything like this before this experience, but after subsequent travel around to other all-black schools, I saw it's much the same. There was no bad behavior; it's just that he _____, she had just ___ her ____, his mom had just ____, etc.
No, it's multiculturalism all over again.
I'm supposed to accept that her situation is normal for her surroundings, and therefore I'm to dismiss the common racist talk and attitudes she has about others because that's her norm. And then I'm supposed to accept her norm as being equal to my norm so that her testimony has equal value to my own common sense.

"hood" (read blunt), .... Again, No, no. I'm blunt. Also called "direct" or "to the point". I don't mince words. However, I'm intelligent and refined enough to understand when to be polite, and when to use a modicum of decorum. "While a witness in a courtroom trial" would be one example of this
.and "unintelligent" (read multilingual). Not sure how to even address this. A person who is a dumbass but speaks three languages, is still a dumbass.
When I was in HS 20(cough)-odd years ago... If you showed up semi-regularly, you were pretty much assured a diploma.
I can't imagine that it's gotten MORE difficult to receive one.
I like seeing libs point out how far out of the mainstream many black people are; anyone else pointing this out would be called racist. What a divisive article from someone trying to convince us that we are all the same...
However, one other thing is quite depressing.
If she was a white conservative Republican, the neo-Cons, the RINO’s, and the GOP Elite would be on MSNBC ripping her heart out.
The Democrats protect their own, no matter how embarrassing.
AGREED! Im so tired of the pity party, especially in the black community. They were given Trillions over the last 50 years in the form of affirmative action. I owe them nothing...I understand them very well...and I dont need some smug racist black girl to tell me IM the racist.

I’ve been working with a lot of blacks, but also a lot of people of other races these past few years in the hospital as an RN. The comments that get made about white people are truly getting much more frequent and more disparaging. I have also been called a “loco gringo” more times than I wish to count. I just can’t stand they way they talk about the elderly white people they’re taking care of ...and every white woman is a “beotch” in their minds. One of the reasons I left my last job was just due to feeling like a discriminated minority ... and I was white! It’s getting worse, and this president is the ULTIMATE one to blame for this horrible division which is NEVER going to make this country any stronger.
I found the 5th grade to be a really tough nut to crack too.
;<)
PS: Congratulations!
I just graduated with a masters at age 50.

Thanks - it was rough, but I did it. Keeps the brain cells pliable. Lots of minorities, though, in my class ..and they truly have the world at their fingertips if they study hard and get good grades. Companies are bending over backwards to hire them ....so I really don’t get what all this is about.
It’s all about pushing a lot of people who don’t want to work hard in school or take advantages of the opportunites given to them. They are not disadvantaged, they are OVER-advantaged, IMO.
