Rubio's immigration strategy worked brilliantly, but disappointed many

"Menendez told me that Rubio's role was to 'work over the conservative universe, particularly the conservative opinion-maker universe,' in order to 'neutralize them' and, in some cases, 'proselytize them,'" the New Yorker's Ryan Lizza reported recently, referring to Democratic Gang member Robert Menendez. The leader of the Gang, Democrat Charles Schumer, "was delighted to have a Tea Party conservative who could sell an immigration bill to the right," Lizza wrote.

The plan worked brilliantly. Conservative talk radio hosts who might have instinctively opposed immigration reform as conceived by Schumer gave Rubio a respectful hearing and a lot of room. When Rubio told them the bill would secure the border first, they believed him.

Later, when it became unavoidably clear that, in fact, the bill would first legalize millions of currently illegal immigrants, and only after that start the work of securing the border, some conservatives began to express skepticism, disappointment and opposition. But Rubio's neutralization campaign had bought the Gang precious months to write the bill and gather momentum before conservatives began to realize what was actually in it.

Elsewhere has been posted Michelle Bachmann’s comments of how this will attempt to be played out. ANY bill boner boy puts up as “a new better version” is a Trojan horse, with the dirty little secret of amnesty inside and pure gaming falsehood. People will be so pissed at them they will not go back to their own districts.

Well, I see old Hatch is at it again.

Another candidate that Palin supported over the TeaParty candidate.

Schmucky Schumer is smiling but I would bet Rubio’s butt is sore and that he hasn’t yet identified the cause.

Yes he did. Amazing cuz I used to think he was a smart guy and worthy of our respect. Marco Rubio can go home now and no one will care. Not at all a smart one, darn it.

Gaining control of the House by sufficient numbers of Tea Party candidates may help—HOWEVER, they ALL are corrupted after one term. Once they get a taste of first class, going back to the farm becomes unpalatable.

We have no Cincinnatus, we have no Washington, we have no Coolidge. ONLY TERM LIMITS—at least voluntary, are effective. We need citizen patriots, not a professional political class.

We need a new party that voluntarily commits to term limits—one term for the Senate, two for the House. Citizen patriots who can say “NO AND HELL, NO!!!!” are preferable to a professional political class.

I do not understand why there is not some criminal mechanism...

Why couldn't there be? Couldn't contributors, individuals and conservative organizations, charge Rubio (and Flake and Ayotte and some others) with fraud? There are very clear, specific quotes they all made during the campaign that they would put border security first.

US Senators can't be recalled. A fraud lawsuit approach would maybe get other 'pubs thinking twice about traitoring those who elected them to office.

It worked in that it kept the 70% of amnesty opponents quiet enough for the 8 gangsters to get their bill passed.

Rubio was just a tissue that could be used and tossed in the trash.

The question for Rubio is, does he know he was a tool? Was he a witting conspirator? The base doesn't care anymore, because Rubio betrayed them. It's the straw that broke the camels back, we been betrayed one too many times.

It's not only Rubio on the edge of the abyss, its the GOP, as run by the RINOs. Palin's already out there saying the betrayers of the Senate, need to be primaried.
