WA:Bodies v. big bucks in background check battle with national implications
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 24 June, 2013 | Dave Workman

They came from across the state, from Bellingham to Vancouver, converging over the weekend on the Puyallup fairgrounds, to sign copies of Initiative 591 and get blanks to take back home, where they will have neighbors, friends and local gun shops fill up the sheets; a grassroots army stirred to action by the fear of Seattle-based big money buying away their gun rights. There is little doubt among WAC members and gun show visitors that Washington may be a “test case.” That is, they are convinced that well-financed sponsors of a competing initiative expect to use their experience here to push gun control initiatives elsewhere. Washington is the experiment.

By Saturday afternoon, officials with the Washington Arms Collectors – sponsors of the weekend event – reported that they had “several” full petitions under lock-and-key, and they gathered more on Sunday. KING 5 News was given a rare opportunity to film inside the gun show, escorted by WAC President John Rodabaugh, who was probably first to fill a petition within minutes of the show opening Saturday morning, and Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Bellevue-based Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Already, gun control proponents are claiming that backers of I-591 – that is, the so-called “gun lobby” – are trying to destroy background checks. I-591 backers counter that’s preposterous. They simply want to assure that background checks here are conducted under a “uniform national standard” and they are convinced that provisions in the 15-page proposal being pushed by the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility goes far beyond the national standard.

It is a study in simplicity. Here’s a PDF of it as filed with the Washington State SOS: http://sos.wa.gov/_assets/elections/initiatives/FinalText_471.pdf

Signed and awaiting their next move ;-)

Big dollars—many from outside both the state and country—have already scored a big victory in the war against the right of the people to keep and bear arms in Colorado.

We ordinary citizens are fighting back with recall campaigns against two of the most unscrupulous anti-Second Amendment bigots, but better to ward off attacks than fight them after the fact.
