Hollywood Still Seeking the Great Right (Terrorist) Hope
Townhall.com ^ | July 1, 2013 | Kurt Schlichter

Hollywood is making another pathetic attempt to manufacture villains out of real Americans in its latest loud, dumb and explodey retread, White House Down. Surprise! The bad guys are, again, our military. Yet, bucking the trend, another big-budget film – the zombie apocalypse epic World War Z – not only depicts our American warriors as the heroes they are but even gives props to the Israeli Defense Force.

I know - it’s easier to believe in zombies than in a major Hollywood movie where American and Israeli fighters aren’t the bad guys.

My friend and Townhall columnist Lisa De Pasquale did us all a favor by seeing White House Down so we don’t have to. When the same movie about an attack on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue flopped two months ago it was called Olympus Has Fallen. Before that, it took place at Nakatomi Plaza and was called Die Hard.

At least in Olympus, the bad guys were North Koreans. In Down, the “military-industrial complex” and right-wing soldiers are mad because liberal President Jamie “Obama is Jesus” Foxx wants to take all US military forces out of the Middle East. Yeah, because it’s not like a bunch of liberals in the government would be pushing to intervene in the Middle East while the military resists the idea as short-sighted, unworkable and just kind of stupid.

These right wing monsters also blow up the Capitol, which was no doubt inspired by the real-life antics of conservative activist Bill Ayers and the Weatherman Tea Party Front.

Basically, the filmmakers’ big problem with these villains is that they behave like leftists.

It’s always refreshing to see popular culture take the lead from the Department of Homeland Security and finally confront the real threat to America – its fighting men and women. Except, according to De Pasquale’s review, there are no women on the terrorist team. Nor minorities. So, in the eyes of Hollywood, the military is an all-white, all-male organization so dedicated to unfocused imperialism that it is willing to commit mass murder of fellow Americans for the chance to die in some Middle East hellhole.

Who needs to risk getting a mouthful of fist by spitting on our soldiers in-person when you can do it safely from on-screen?

If you spend one damn cent on this crap, you’re spitting on our troops too. Remember that when one of your friends innocently suggests going to see this celluloid slander having merely seen the trailer and thinking it’s just a way to turn off your brains for a couple hours of action-packed fun.

Repeat after me, conservatives: Not one damn cent.

In contrast, World War Z is a pleasant surprise. Based (loosely) on the terrific novel by Max Brooks about the impact on society of a plague of hungry ghouls, Z actually depicts our military as competent, capable and brave. It shows American and Israeli soldiers doing what soldiers do in real life – risking their lives to protect their people.

This movie is also the best advertisement ever for the AR15 rifle platform. M16s and M4s, with all sorts of modifications, abound. They protect civilization from ravenous hordes of mindless savages bent on the destruction of all decent human beings. You know, sort of like in real life.

Occasionally, liberals will mock conservatives for their reluctance to relinquish effective weapons due to worries that the thin veneer of civilization might crack. I don’t remember any of those liberals on the streets with me during the Los Angeles riots – I expect they were cowering up in the Hollywood Hills behind me and my fellow soldiers’ M16A1 rifles.

World War Z is not really about brain-eating zombies but about the resilience of civilization and how its stability relies on a relatively few military and civilian defenders. The not-so-subtle message is that when civilization crumbles, feel-good liberal platitudes make way for reality.

Accordingly, it’s not surprising that when all hell breaks loose, Brad Pitt grabs a rifle. And as for the dudes who decide to take a break from fleeing the zombies by assaulting Ms. Pitt, Brad’s “rape whistle” sounds a lot like a .30-06.

But World War Z is a lonely exception to the general Hollywood rule – that everything bad in the world somehow comes back to those perceived as conservatives. In White House Down, the military goes kill-crazy to protect its war machine profits. In The Purge, law and order types want to engage in a bloody free-for-all of homicide. And in Footloose, for some reason Christians want to keep Kevin Bacon from dancing.

But, of course if it’s corporate profits that need protecting, the real experts are the Democrat Party’s crony corporatist constituents. If you want an urban bloodbath, head to any Democrat-run big city. And count on the Democrats’ feminist phalanx to whine about the hetero-normative, patriarchal paradigm of Kevin Bacon’s sexy shimmying.

From domestic terrorism to corporate conspiracies, from inner city slaughter to petty-fascist nannyism, the real source of every evil the Tinseltown left decries is right there in the mirror. As usual, movies aren’t the only thing liberal Hollywood is projecting.

If the enemy is aliens (from space) or zombies, then Hollywood can hold its collective nose and make Americans into the Good Guys. But, if there has to be a human bad guy, then it must be white, European, and militaristic because, in their minds, there are no other bad guys on Earth.

As far as I’m concerned, Hollywood jumped the shark on movies of this type when it replaced the Arab Terrorists in “Sum of All Fears” with white right wing real Nazis. It kept Muslim Terrorists out of the national limelight and cloaked them until 9/11/2001.

At this point, were I actually to see WHD or OIB, I’d be rooting for the ‘terrorists’.

Have you noticed that while the Left is rabidly anti-Christian and promoting their “atheistic” beliefs, they won’t do or say a single damn thing about Islam?

I have a feeling that Christians will rise to prominence again very soon as Islam attempts to fill the faith vacuum in our country. That is their goal, and we, as followers of Christ, have a sacred duty to fight them every step of the way.

Yep, the last Hollywood flick to get it right was "True Lies" in 1994. After that, Clinton-era PC grabbed hold of the movie industry, and all we've seen since then is pure dreck.

The very fact that liberal society treats Islam as a real religion speaks volumes.

There have been studies in recent years, primarily based on information gleaned from European countries, that reach various conclusions about what happens at various percentages of Islamic population in a Judeo-Christian country. IIRC, the real problems start when the level gets anything above 2-4%.

Our country is in very deep trouble. There is nothing in the Immigration Bill just passed that says anything about legalizing all these illegals being ‘hispanic’.

In the next 3.5 years (and during the 2.5 years we will do NOTHING to stop or enforce illegal immigration), just exactly what is there to stop an influx of Muslims? Nothing.

In my personal opinion, it is just as anti-American to give your money to prop up that garbage, “White House Down”, as it was to produce it. Jamie Foxx — “I get to kill all the White guys” in the lead role ought to have been the first clue as to where this movie was going.

The writer is correct - it is leftists, not conservatives, who have morphed into some kind of twisted puritans.

It's not just a matter of philosophy, they also know that Islamics have this nasty habit of cutting people's heads off when they say bad things about Islam.

How many movies has Hollywood churned out since “Three Days Of the Condor” depicting countless innocent civilians being assassinated by gov. agents who are secretly controlled by anti-liberal, kill-crazed righties who stop at nothing. Why people are being gunned down all the time by these CIA-trained killers. The gov., in collusion with major corporations (who have their own armies of trained assassins) has nothing better to do than silence all the brave lib er individuals who find nasty things going on in Washington and wherever righties gather to plot nasty things against libs are other wonderful people.

Obama (Jamie Foxx) on film don’t work!!! The “White House Down” was a major flop this weekend at the box office!!! American film viewers, especially the young folks have just about gotten Obama’s number!!! This film will lose millions of dollars, rightfully so!!!

I'm a huge movie fan, and I don't go to movies any more. Not only are many of them anti-American tripe; but they just suck, IMO. I have a fairly extensive collection of movies on Blu-ray and DVD. Most of the films in my collection were probably made before 1980. My wife and I have gone to no more than a handful of movies of the last 5 years or so.

The last movie we attended was the 50th anniversary showing of the 1963 epic Cleopatra last month. Seeing such a spectacular movie with real people and sets and legendary movie stars like Liz Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison was a thrill Hollywood can no longer replicate, IMO.

It really sucks when you're old enough to sometimes see two, or even three remakes of a really good 1950s era Hollywood movie. Inserted with he Hollywood airhead star du-jour.

I've come to the conclusion that the Hollywood writer corps has less than 10 basic plot-lines/themes in their portfolios - thus, all entertainment flows from those few.

It is either that for a ‘plan’ or you end up with writers that are just coked out or choomed up slamming out incomprehensible tripe like “Lost,” finally forced to close it all out with a cop out plot reminiscent of “Dallas” dream ending......[or an ignominious ending for a stellar series like BSG - I've never felt more let down than with the final episode]

I guess the only good thing I can think of is that with my advancing age, I'll get to a point where forgetfulness or Alzheimer's will make my video collection brand new again.

Not exactly true. The Peacemeaker (1997) with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman was excellent. US Military & specifically Special Forces were the good guys and a muslim (serbian/croat) was the bad guy. Plausible watchable and not very PC.

Also, the current reliance on CGI effects is really boring to me. I mentioned Cleopatra because it featured such gigantic sets with tons of people. Several scenes truly took one's breath away. Likewise, an epic like Lawrence of Arabia features stunning vistas in areas of the desert that even now are not traveled. Hollywood is getting so blase about stuffing CGI effects in movies that nothing truly impresses. They don't even feature good stunt work any more. Now, you see actors half-assedly react to the CGI mayhem the same way people did in the old days when they were "driving" with crummy back projection behind them. The difference is that in the old Hollywood films, the back projection was not the point of the scene. Today, the CGI effects are the point of the film.

Hollywood has lost all respect of the American Public. Americans are begging with their pocket books for some pro-American Movies. I have just finished a script about the Sacrifice of a certain group of men during the Battle of the Bulge and I bet no American Movie company will touch it. Now if I made it a gay love story about the lead character and the supporting character, they would be all over it. My script is called Forgotten Valor and hope that one of these days we can see what American movies have been in the past. Pro-American patriotic and about the sacrifices of the American soldier. I am sick of Hollywood.
