Dozens of young campers at the Sports World complex in East Windsor huddled under tables as a violent storm tore away the domed portion of the building near Interstate 91 on Monday afternoon.

None of the children was injured, but the storm did widespread damage in the area. Part of the dome was blown into traffic the highway, trees were toppled into houses, tobacco netting was tangled around power lines and a tractor trailer was knocked over nearby.

On Monday night, the National Weather Service confirmed that the storm contained a tornado.

The tornado hit the Windsor Locks area between 1:30 and 2 p.m. A tornado warning was issued after people saw funnel clouds in the area, and radar images showed strong rotation in the storm, FOXCT Meteorologist Rachel Frank said.

If that was a tornado it was a very small one. A tractor-trailer blown over in a Walmart parking lot, some trees uprooted, some broken branches, and an inflatable dome over a small sports complex burst and collapsed.

Governor Malloy will introduce legislation tomorrow outlawing tornadoes. Blaming global warming, he will propose a 5% “tornado tax” on the sale of all appliances that use electricity.

None of the children was injured...

By DAVID OWENS and CHLOE MILLER

Two reporters who cannot conjugate one verb.

The blow back of firearms discharged in shooting ranges is thought to be a conrtibuting factor in the cyclone formation.

I was thinking requiring all storms that are forecast register as “assault storms” an ban the transfer of all new high capacity “assault storms.” Those storms that do not comply will be charged with a felony.

It will do just as much good in preventing death and his stupid gun laws.

None of the children was injured

None of the children WERE injured. Typical AP dumbed-down journalism.

Malloy calls emergency legislative session to approve executive order mandating a 10% tax on all neighboring states from which tornados originate and cross over CT state lines.

Both options are acceptable in this sentence. This is true because the meaning of ‘none’ here may be construed as either “not one” or “not any”.
The authors chose the “not any” meaning and are perfectly correct to have done so.

The authors were perfectly correct in their choice of verb. Please see my reply to another poster.

On Monday night, the National Weather Service confirmed that the storm contained a tornado.

That’s what they get paid the big bucks for .... confirming the obvious. Probably took 20 PHDs and one intern to figure that out.

The authors chose the “not any” meaning and are perfectly correct to have done so.

The correct verb for "not any" would be "were" not "was". The correct verb for "not one" would be "was".

When I went to school ONE was singular and NONE was plural.

Are you a graduate of the Ebonics School of Journalism? In that sense, they would be correct. The past tense conjugation for the verb “to be” in ebonics is:

I was
You was
He, She, It was

We was
Dey was (although proper ebonics would be “Dey be”).

If the authors were white, the correct verb to use was “were”.
