Libraries Enlisted to Deliver Obamacare Information (Democratic 'navigators' in 123,000 libraries)
The Washington Examiner ^ | JULY 1, 2013 AT 12:15 PM | Paul Bedard "Washington Secrets" columnist

The White House is turning to the network of public libraries to deliver Obamacare information and advice to the nation.

As it begins promoting the program that will require all Americans to have health insurance or pay a fine starting next year, the administration is dealing with the biggest hurdle in its effort: Where Americans go to get information on the new program.

Enter public libraries, already the go-to site for many Americans looking for tax forms every April. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which is in charge of Obamacare, has teamed with the Institute of Museum and Library Services to get librarians ready to help citizens learn about the new system.

According to the Centers, "the initiative will provide public libraries with information about the health care law and connect librarians with CMS navigators and certified application counselors to help their patrons understand the options for enrollment in the health insurance through the marketplace."

Under Obamacare, "navigators" will help Americans sign up for the health insurance program beginning October 1. The hope is that the nation's 123,000 libraries will help connect Americans with the navigators.

"People will likely turn to libraries to learn about the Marketplace, and we want to make sure that library staff has access to the tools and the information to respond to people who want to sign up and enroll for coverage on October 1," said Medicare's Marilyn Tavenner.

Well...now they are turning libraries into social centers for kids. I have a friend who worked at a library in WA State who said that is happening. Also, where else do people without money get porn?

My family goes to the library on a regular basis. Now that school is out, my daughter and I go at least once a week.

Lots of folks still enjoy holding an actual book, as I witness by the number of folks at our local branch any time I go in.

I imagine it will be just like states who take
DOT funding...before long orders will come from
Washington...

In Russia, they didn’t have to subtle.
Here they will just subvert your children.

So, who does an individual buy insurance from? An exchange? An insurance company? Does he talk to an agent who gets commission?

Build a home library, buy second hand/used books
Remember the NSA can read your library card files
just like the phone records...
It might not matter now but it might to your kids
later.

I love books.

Where are the funds for these 123,000 Obamacare 'navigators?'

Sounds like a lot of 'community organizers' with part time memberships in the new black panther parties...

I guess some Freepers haven’t set foot unto an actual library in years. I like our library and the feel of holding a book instead if using an e-reader is priceless. Besides, i still stand by my joke previously, that bums sleep there during the daytime before they crash the streets at night.

Most of the people applying for Obamacare have never been to a library in their life.

No word from the uppity ups in my organization on this. And, No, I am not a member of ALA.

We don’t help people operate the computers except on a very limited basis. Need someone to sit with you? You better bring someone with you, we don’t have enough staff for that.

We still have tons of users, many of which DON’T use the computers. They keep me busy.

I’ll post as to what goes down.

Same here - the two girls aren't big readers but we're working on it. BTW, our library system runs content filters and we wouldn't be going otherwise. I feel sorry for the people in the areas where that's not the case.

There's a library a couple blocks over from where I work. Nearest bookstore is several miles away and I work for an employer that doesn't like personal internet usage (and I don't like using my SmartPhone to view webpages - hurts my eyes too much after a little while). I go there a couple times a week during lunch, rummage through the periodicals, wander the history section of the stacks. It ends up being pretty relaxing and helps me de-stress.

I'm actually looking forward to these "navigators" showing up. Will find out pretty quickly just how much they really know about what they're pushing ... :)
