Ted Cruz: 'We need to padlock and shut down' the IRS
WASHINGTON EXAMINER ^ | JULY 1, 2013 - 6:10PM | STEVE CONTORNO

Sen. Ted Cruz is joining Tea Party activists in calling on Congress to abolish the Internal Revenue Service as the freshman lawmaker made the case from tax reform.

The Texas Republican on Monday said news that the IRS targeted the nonprofit applications of conservative-leaning political groups was an "inspiration" because of how it has sparked "normal American citizens that are standing up for liberty." In the wake of the IRS scandal, Tea Party groups have repeatedly called for the agency to close its doors, and Cruz, a hero of the conservative movement, echoed their sentiments.

"It is a challenge that we all face to limit the power of Washington," Cruz said. "After these revelations of political targeting by the IRS, we need to padlock and shut down the building, abolish the IRS, and move to a flat tax or the FAIR Tax."

Leaders in Congress have publicly expressed a willingness to tackle tax reform, though it seems that Democrats and Republicans every year express similar sentiments without any action. Earlier in the day, a new government study showed profitable corporations paid an effective income tax rate lower than 13 percent in 2010, sparking calls from both sides of the aisle to take another look at the tax code.

A majority support the IRS because those who pay no or minimal income tax together with the “good government” types constitute a true majority.

Senator Cruz, I don’t know if you said these exact words or the writer imagined the ‘flat tax’ part, but with all due respect:

A FLAT TAX NEVER STAYS FLAT!

Flat taxes in our American tax history (there have been several) always get amended to a complex intractable code. There have been more than 20,000 amendments to the tax code since the last major reform in 1986.

The FairTax is the way to go:

So how did Ted Cruz get to be Ted Cruz, anyhow?

I think that’s a process worth understanding.

Cruz can get the nomination on this issue alone.

Either we do this now or we can live in slavery the rest of our lives. It’s our choice.

The real problem is we still have half the population that is stuck on retarded and stuck on government goodies.

Ever heard of "incrementalism"? You should, it is how the RATS got us in this mess.

You are one of those folks who seem to think that we can just wave a magic wand and make everything we don't like disappear, just like that.

Let me explain it to you. I am typing slow, so you should be able to keep up.

You target one bloated agency, remove it and the legislation and EOs that enabled it, prove that the world didn't end. Then, you select the next bloated agency...repeat.

Got it?

"He’s putting on a little weight. I hope he doesn’t neglect his health."

Okay! That is it. Cruz has let us down like all the other RINOs. Time to get rid of him!

(I hope the Sarc tag wasn't necessary! Just channeling a "Conservative Purist"!)

Just DEFUND it—along with ALL the “Czars” while you’re at it. The House has the power, doesn’t it??

Sure, they have always had the power.but they never used it and never will. I think it was around 1996 or 97 when I finally had to accept that the "smaller, less intrusive federal government" line was just another pack of lies.

Why stop at just one of the UnConstitutional alphabet agencies of tyranny?

Because you go for the biggest payoff first. Killing the IRS takes several large teeth out of the maw of the government leviathan.

The irs should be abolished and converted into a day care center where every single government employee, from the president on down to the janitors, including tsa thugs, should be FORCED to attend classes on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution until they can recite them backwards and forwards and tell you why each clause exists. The Federalist Papers should be required reading. Anyone who can’t explain the Constitution should be dismissed never to return.

I love the thought. Not going to happen, though.

Cruz really seems to be the man we need right now. I hope he stays the course.

“Why stop at just one of the UnConstitutional alphabet agencies of tyranny?”

Agree. What say we add the ATF to the list? Appears the FBI has been politically compromised so it could use a good scrubbing. NSA is same as FBI, politically compromised and out of control. In fact, virtually every federal agency has lost sight of their purpose or mission, that being to “serve”. Every one of them needs a good purging, especially at the top levels. Clean out the rascals I say!!!! :)

Dead men tell no tales - and they sure can’t restore the health of a Republic.

I hope Cruz takes care of his health so we have him around restoring OURS for a long time.
