(Liberal Democrat Historian) Doris Kearns Godwin Ruins Gettysburg's 150th Commemoration
American Thinker Magazine ^ | July 2, 2013 | Rick Moran

Posted on 07/02/2013 12:52:28 PM PDT by drewh

Godwin turned her speech into a rant about gay marriage and women's rights:

Kearns Goodwin commented on last week's Supreme Court decisions that she called "stunning."

"On the one hand, a critical section of that same 1965 Voting Rights Act which had stood for fifty years was struck down," Kearns Goodwin said. "On the other hand, the struggle to end discrimination against gays and lesbians took a giant step forward."

She compared the gay rights movement to the women's rights and civil rights movements, and then gushed about how privileged she was that she had a "curious love of history" that allowed her to look back and tell stories--if they were her own--about the past.

The closest she came to discussing the Battle of Gettysburg at length was when she mentioned "Stonewall."

But instead of talking about how different Gettysburg could have been had the great Southern General Stonewall Jackson lived to aid Robert E. Lee, Kearns Goodwin instead spoke about the Stonewall gay riots that united the gay community, which she used to discuss how women's rights and civil rights and gay rights were all "human rights" while quoting Robert F. Kennedy's "ripples of hope" speech.

She even compared "Stonewall" to "Selma," linking the gay rights movement and the black civil rights movement.

One would think an historian would jump at the chance to talk about themes relating to the battle and Lincoln's famous speech.

But Kearns Godwin is obviously held in thrall to an ideological view of history - a deterministic notion that bears little ressemblance to reality.

It's a shame, really. There is only one opportunity to get the 150th commemoration right. And Doris Kearns Godwin blew it.

No surprise here...DKG is a Bitch. The fact that she dishonored the brave soldiers of The Union and The Confederacy is unforgivable. I have never cared for her but now I really can’t stand to hear her name.
I wish her nothing but the worst that life will bring her in the future. She has earned it at Gettysburg.
She knew the historical importance of the moment but she chose to suck on the gay/lesbian teats.
Read Lincoln’s address and compare.

I guess it didn't occur to the woman that she was invited to speak at a historical occasion because she is allegedly a historian. Hint: we want you to talk about the history?

She really disrespected the occasion and participants by giving a petty political speech.

...Battle of Gettysburg to a pro-sodomy rant.

Well, weren't a lot of the male "nurses" homosexual Quakers?

Maybe I'm just generalizing and mixing up Walt Whitman and JG Whittier...

Whittier, btw, was from North of Boston. Perhaps that's part of the reason why DKG has "gay" on the brain.

I lived in the Boston area years ago. It was hard not to turn on the local news without seeing her being interviewed for something or another.

Usually anti-Reagan, pro-[Ted] Kennedy.

Universities should realize that they don’t have to bring in the dregs just to have a speaker. Better a band concert to fill the time. What an embarrassment. But, then again, these university administrators will excuse hack 5th rate talks under cover of freedom of speech.

Minds have been so polluted by today’s university educations that people are afraid to call it like it is.

"I have a pretty agile mind but I have no idea how you can logically go from the Battle of Gettysburg to a pro-sodomy rant."

Leftists have no "six degrees of separation" when it comes to their religion.

Today's topic is great left handed pitchers.

Liberal Nutjob: "Most famous people in History are gay. Ben Franklin, George Washington, Sir Issac Newton and Albert Einstein were all Gay!

Her husband is over 80 and not all there mentally. I suspect she's losing it herself at 70.

Or maybe it goes back before that. Her Dartmouth commencement address 15 years ago was also all about "me, me, me, and LBJ and Eleanor."

Maybe it started when Ken Burns asked her to ramble on about her childhood and the Brooklyn Dodgers and put her ramblings on TV.

It's about FREEEEE-dom, you see .... isn't it obvious? </s>

The link is all the false equations and equivalencies that have been strewn about by the homosexual movement in their power drive.

Just keep in mind that the Harvard University Nazi Club, in 1940, was one of the biggest university organizations in America. That changed with the times, as it were.

Goodwin has become, unfortunately, one of those godawful Inevitable People you just can't escape. PBS is one of the big offenders, bringing her in for gig after gig, even after her embarrassment over a plagiarism charge.

Other people so embarrassed, or exposed, disappear. Not Goodwin.

I have a pretty agile mind but I have no idea how you can logically go from the Battle of Gettysburg to a pro-sodomy rant. That is one messed up woman.

No thinking person would ever imagine that Goodwin has much to offer in any conversation.

She has the twisted deranged mind of a (gag) liberal/progressive. Probably was half-drunk to have made such vile remarks.

She needs to be blackballed....whenever she pops up on MTP and other interview shows, producers need to be told we will not tune in if she is scheduled to appear.

Tell bookstore managers you will not patronize them if they continue to carry her books.

The Army of Northern Virginia took it up the poop chute at Gettysburg.

There. I connected her rant to Gettysburg.

David Horowitz mentioned that he was told by Richard Goodwin that he(Goodwin) would personally write his wife's book about the Kennedy's in order to beat out the Kennedy book that was being researched by David Horowitz and Peter Collier.

Goodwin also threatened to personally prevent any of the Kennedy Family from cooperating with Horowitz and Collier on their book.

She is a no value added dimwit and her outrageous behavior at the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg just proves it.

It is all about civil rights in their minds and anything that gets that label of civil rights becomes part of their predestination theology. Their liberal god wants everyone to be granted their civil rights whatever that may be or however that may evolve in the future.
