Curfew considered after massive brawl in downtown Greensboro

A massive fight in downtown Greensboro Saturday night has some city leaders taking a hard look at bringing back the teen curfew.

Nearly 400 people were involved in the several fights that happened along Elm Street.

Greensboro police arrested 11 people ranging in age from 16 to 20-years-old. Officers had to use pepper spray and a stun gun to try to get the crowd under control. Greensboro Police Department had to call UNCG Police and Guilford County for extra help. Some officers minor injuries following the fights. As soon as one fight stopped another started.

And the Governor just announced the cut-off of long term unemployment benefits.

"The decision of North Carolina lawmakers to cut the amount and length of state unemployment benefits took effect Sunday, stripping federally funded checks from the state's 71,000 long-term jobless.

Some years back, when there was a riot-a-week in Italy by the Communists, the police would bring in vehicles with water cannons and spray the lot with a dye, then in the following hours/days, arrest everybody who was stained. Evidently they couldn’t easily wash the stuff off.

There probably some obscure law that prevents the same tactic here because it sounds like a good idea.

Sheriff Taylor always knew how to handle them. I have a feeling it might take a more aggressive sheriff to handle this new breed of untamed youngsters.
