U.S. Sen. Al Franken stopped by the state Capitol on Monday to tout the benefits of the Senate's recently passed immigration bill for Minnesota and the nation.

The measure would bolster the employment pool for Minnesota's agricultural industry, particularly dairy farming, as well as for high-tech and medical firms, Franken said.

The bill includes new border security measures and a 13-year path to citizenship for the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants.

It would be of some interest to know what the IQ of this shoe scraping would be.

The defeat of Al Franken and the rest of the state’s Democrats would benefit Minnesota businesses.

Well, as long as it benefits the crony-capitalists of the big-government/big-corporate criminal complex.

That's all that really matters.

If they become legal, don’t they become subject to minimum wage? How is that supposed to benefit the farmers? They will just go out and find new illegals...

He’s right. But not for the reasons given.

You have a job to fill. You have a US citizen subject to the obamacare mandate and you have the boarder jumper with is new paperwork who is not.

The boarder jumper is cheaper because of it. Who are you gonna higher if both are qualified?

In a vacuum where the only effect of amnesty is the cheapening of labor so that all workers can be paid less, it would be good for business. But, when you take all the factors into account—increased education costs (because they sure won’t learn English), welfare costs, crime costs—it stops being such a bargain.

Even the cheapening of labor isn’t such a bargain because as your employees get poorer, so do your customers. As we are learning in the jobless recovery, we can make do with less, and that means more and more closed businesses every month.

Privatize the profits, socialize the costs. Great for business, terrible for the taxpayer.

Years ago I pointed out to a ‘liberal’ that if you keep putting out policies and laws that adversely affect the “working man taxpayer” you will wind up with fewer taxpayers and more people sucking on the Government teat.

“He said that was fine with him. There would be more taxpayers available to fill the gap.” I could never figure out his logic.

"bolster the employment pool"

Hmmm, what is the unemployment rate in Minnesota? Minnesota must be doing great if millions of new workers are needed.
