The furries are returning to Pittsburgh (freaks invade my city)

PITTSBURGH - Downtown Pittsburgh is taking another walk on the wild side with the annual Anthrocon.

Furries -- people who are fascinated with anthropomorphics -- have begun arriving for their yearly national convention at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. It begins Thursday and continues through the weekend.

"Folks who have never seen it before, don't be scared. If you see a 6-foot-tall raccoon walking by your window, no, you're not going crazy, it's just us," Anthrocon CEO Samuel Conway said.

Many of the thousands who will attend the convention are dressed in full or partial animal costumes as they walk through the streets of the Golden Triangle.

One furry who calls himself Exy, said, “I am a Siberian husky from Alaska. I like to pull sleds, and I like to chase my own tail.”

Exy said Pittsburgh's Antrhocon is special. “I look forward to it every day, we plan for it almost a year in advance. It’s like the best convention here in the United States.”

This year, they'll be trying to set a Guinness World Record for the "World's Largest Fursuit Parade" on Saturday.

Why is Anthrocon so popular? "Everybody loves animals. Everybody loves costumes," Conway said. "We are all about creativity, we are all about imagination, we are all about dreaming. This weekend, in the city of Pittsburgh, this is our chance to share our dreams with you."

Anthrocon includes workshops, panel discussions, art exhibitions and vendors catering to fans of the human-like animal characters.

VisitPittsburgh estimates the convention has brought more than $25 million in direct spending to the city since it first arrived in 2006. Anthrocon has also raised more than $140,000 for animal-related charities since making Pittsburgh its host city.

Oh haha they'll spend money in our city. Yip dee doo. /s

These people are seriously mentally ill freaks that dress like animals, use litter boxes, trash hotel rooms, and have a sex dressed as animals. This city's efforts to normalize this trash all to make buck is disgusting. Then again, what should I expect from a pace whose city hall flies the gay pride rainbow flag every June.

It takes a dedicated furry to dress as a porcupine and an even more dedicated furry to have sex with him or her.

Ugh.
Then again, if its not mentally unstable to think you’re the other gender, then thinking you’re a polar bear is probably A-OK.

It’s like GaGa conjured up legions of deviant hellspawn to walk the surface of America. Most of these things are queer too.

This article sounds like it's all innocent fun.

But isn't there a good bit of deviant sexual behavior in these sub-cultures?

I mean... they don't want to just dress like rabbits... they want to otherwise emulate rabbits.

Why Pittsburgh?

Don’t they belong in Seattle, Berkeley, or Taos?

Last year, there were rumblings that the hotel workers complained heavily about the mess these “people” leave. Of course, that was kept out of our local MSM, who does a good job trying to pass this off as innocent fun or a bunch of folks with a harmless little hobby.

This is a sexually deviant crowd.

I shudder to think about that.

Some tattooed freak at work goes to this every year. He says its just nothing but random sex & is the easiest place to get laid, which he claims is his reason for going. I try to avoid him.

Yes I have and yes you’re right. But a small city like Pittsburgh “prides” itself on emulating the big gay icon of SF: in June we have an enormous PrideFest sponsored by pretty much anyone who’s anybody in the local business & corporate scene. And for the Supreme Court ruling, parts of the downtown area were shut for a giant homo fest called “Rejoice or Riot” There were enormous TV screens set up for the reading of the decision & some dumbass in city hall actually gave them a permit to gather despite their threat to riot if they didn’t like the decision.

I believe Advocate magazine named Pittsburgh one of the gay-friendliest cities in the U.S. pray for us.

Refresh my memory. Didn’t Pittsburgh vote overwhelmingly for that reprehensible son of a b!tch Obama? Didn’t Pennsylvania throw its electoral votes to the blue-lipped Kenyan monkey, thus aiding his return to power and screwing us all?

Excuse me for being rude... but I’m having a VERY hard time generating any sympathy for you screwed up northern states and your perverted union-based leftist character. WTF makes y’all such idiots? Is it the weather? The water? What?

Rot in your own damn anthropomorphic furry filth.

And if you personally are the exception, CHANGE THINGS or MOVE.
