Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., threatened to drop the "f-bomb" during a nationally televised speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention. Mitt Romney, the GOP's eventual 2012 nominee, almost aborted his presidential run in 2011 because he didn't see a viable path to the nomination. And Romney's advisers, frightened by Newt Gingrich's victory in the South Carolina primary, held a series of "Kill Newt" strategy sessions in the days after the primary.

The presence of Christie loomed large over the 2012 election, even though he had publicly maintained that he would not run. Balz reveals how pervasive the effort to draft Christie into the race became during the summer of 2011, when figures including former President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger contacted the popular New Jersey Republican, entreating him to throw his hat into the ring.

When he eventually decided against a run, he was again courted - this time by the Romney campaign - as a potential vice presidential candidate. Though he had cautioned Romney that he had a "big" personality that may not be well-suited to playing second fiddle, Romney assured Christie that he remained under serious consideration, Balz writes.

In the end, it was money, not chemistry, that kept Christie off the GOP ticket. A "pay to play" regulation from the Securities and Exchange Commission prevented the country's largest banks from donating to candidates and elected officials from states in which big banks were located. If Christie, the governor of New Jersey, were added to the ticket, Romney's campaign would have been barred from accepting any campaign contributions from Wall Street - a critical source of cash for the GOP candidate, formerly a private equity manager.

Henry Kissinger is just the guy I want picking candidates. Big Tea Partier. [snort]
Is Wall Street in New Jersey now?
Or am I missing something?
If whatever candidate that ends up with the nod in 2016 cannot have a verified and confirmed connection to “Tea Party” I’m just not gonna vote for them, period.
The GOP-e has had ENOUGH warning about this and it will be time for some tough love if they bang their head against the wall a third time.
Everything seems likely to just get worse.
what states are big banks not in? Does that mean nobody from NJ or NY could and i guess Calif could raise enough to run nationally? That makes zero sense to me.
Oh they will, make no doubt. Like I said many times, there is no Repub party. It’s an illusion. We have a RINO party but not a Republican party. There are the Democrats and the Democrat lite which is why we need a 3rd party like right now ASAP.
now the F bomb had been dropped on chubbie, by the rank and file Republicans.
Romney has destroyed America by attacking Gov. Palin
in 2008, and every Conservative in 2010, and then
acting like a vegetable in 2012 because he did not
want to run in the first place, but his wife forced him.
It’s the Age of Zero...
Which F-bomb? Fatass?
I, too, am no longer a R. I actually see some longer term benefit to a new party as relates to the “envy” card. There are still too many working class (actual work) who buy the “party of the rich” line.
For me, he dropped the F bomb.
He lost me with his convention speech. I think he mentioned Romney maybe once.
It was a ‘Forget it’ speech for me.
F bomb?
Fart or F-ck?
Ooooooh fuuuuuuudge.
Matthew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
If they screw us on immigration and do not stop the commiecare crap then they can run whomever they wish... a republican will only get about 24% o the popular vote. The dims will win but we will have defeated 50% of the evil that threatens our Republic. The republican party leadership wants and promotes everything that obama and the left wants... everything that stalin wanted... they just want to boil the frog a little longer. Either the party seeks redemption or they go the way of the Whigs. There are not enough of you republican party operatives to brow beat us through guilt to vote for you again... all in an effort to keep us slaving on your plantation... or to override the righteous anger and determination of the Conservative movement. So help me GOD!
I had the same reaction.
The speech was all about “me”.
Since then I’ve only been able to see him as some lonely fat kid who desperately craves attention. He reinforced that image by the way he clung on to “popular girl” Obama.
He might lose weight (via surgery) for 2016 but he’ll never lose his pathetic, beta personality.
They might be referring to companies that are incorporated in New Jersey. Such companies would have New Jersey papers, but they could have their main offices in NYC, or anywhere else for that matter.
As an aside, I know that many large companies incorporate in Delaware. Delaware has very favorable corporate tax laws. I don't know what the appeal of New Jersey would be.
