Veteran Giants lefty Barry Zito has long been active in supporting our military veterans, so consider this the latest example of his dedication to the cause.
Given this season's historically lofty strikeout rates, Zito is likely to wind up donating more than $100,000 this time around. Sure, make with the predictably cynical comments about how much Zito makes and how this isn't much of an imposition for him, but I'm guessing that Welcome Back Veterans and those they help aren't too worried about all of that.
So good on you, Mr. Zito.

Love my Giants!
Most of the MLB players are pretty good about that sort of thing. I know Justin Verlander hosts wounded vets in his suite at Comerica park all the time.
Should be a very interesting game between the Tigers and Blue Jays tonight. Lots of trash talk over a slide at second that left Omar Infante injured and later benches were cleared when Torii Hunter headed for the mound after being hit by a pitch.
The Z man has always been good to the vets. He is a stand up guy even when fans booed him and thought he would never come back.
Why would MLB strike out vets?
I like it. I’d have a hard time if I was a MLB player, not taking 3 swings and misses, with a wink to the stands and a salute to vets. :-) Good for Barry Zito.
Zito's a standup guy.
Wish they could hit the damn ball, though.
I know! It is awful... I am living with a Dodgers fan right now...
Veterans are always striking out on a hard slider. That’s why they have such low batting averages. :=)
God Bless you sir.
