Jobless Rate for Poor Black Teen Dropouts? Try 95 Percent
PBS ^ | july 6, 2013 | Paul Solmon

Posted on 07/06/2013 1:03:20 PM PDT by Innovative

Paul Solman: And how about kids that are not in school, what percentage of them ages 16 to 19 are not working now?

Andrew Sum: Over half. If you're a high school dropout you're talking about 30 percent working. Among high school grads who graduated from high school in the last three years -- we do a separate survey of them the fall after graduation -- 45 percent of them held a job, the lowest in the last 50 years we've been collecting this data. And to make it worse, of that 45 percent, only half of them were able to get a full-time job. Only one in five young high school grads, not in college, [is] working full-time.

....

Andrew Sum: Terribly. We used to be a world leader on putting young people to work. In the last 10 years we've moved from the fifth best to the 13th in a pack of 24 OECD [Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, meaning post-industrial] countries. The United States is no longer a leader.

Paul Solman: So, you mean, it's effectively an 80 percent underemployment rate?

Andrew Sum: Yes. And, if you happen to be a young black male, we're talking 90. Ninety percent are not working full-time.

That’s ok. I’m sure they use their free time to do other productive activities.

Or at least an electorate that doesn't abort, murder and incarcerate itself into irrelevance.

If it weren't for the violence threat, which is rapidly being countered by liberalized concealed carry laws, people wouldn't stand for the "racism" blackmail anymore.

The left has been in control long enough to change this situation - if it wanted to. It doesn’t. It deliberately created an unhappy underclass and turned it against another segment of the country. It told the underclass that it wasn’t responsible for its self-inflicted pathologies, and that another segment of the country is responsible.

The left wants it this way.

Reagan was a man who knew how to reach out without selling out and it worked.

If they want good pay and are willing to work and I do mean WORK, the oil patch is hiring and they don't ask a lot of fool questions.

It deliberately created an unhappy underclass and turned it against another segment of the country.

Which is exactly why the schools won't teach any black American history other than slavery. If blacks understood how big a role both free and slave alike played in building America, they might just replace some of that resentment with pride.

Somehow your math is wrong. 50 Years ago would be 1963 a full 18 years after WW11. Or were you trying to make a point that I missed.

Ah, you're right... I was dropping a one. -- But even then, that 18 years after would be the baby-boomers graduating.

All the entry level jobs have become career paths for illegal aliens. Why hire a teenager who will expect a promotion in a year when you can hire an illegal alien who will work for minimum wage for a decade and never expect more?

This will be why they riot. Treyvon just gave the Democrats some cover. The press will blame the whites when the real cause is Democrat policies.

I hope they are all happy that they voted for Obama..

I agree. He will give them more freebies than they could ever afford with a minimum wage job.

Why would they want a regular job. Now, under the table work, I'm sure a lot of them can find some of that.

Sorry to contradict you, but your frame of reference has slipped.

2013 minus 50 = 1963.

So we need to think about what happened in 1963...
