Super. Obamacare subscribers to be on “honor system”

We must pass the bill to find out what’s in the bill.

The Obama administration announced Friday that it would significantly scale back the health law’s requirements that new insurance marketplaces verify consumers’ income and health insurance status.

Instead, the federal government will rely more heavily on consumers’ self-reported information until 2015, when it plans to have stronger verification systems in place. Well, I can’t imagine what could possibly go wrong there. I mean, if you need to be below a particular income and not have access to a particular level of employer provided coverage to qualify for a chance to dip into the taxpayer funded coffers, we don’t need to check things like that, do we? Nobody would be such a scofflaw as to violate the “honor system” in America. Wait… are you really saying this is going to run on the honor system?

It is not unprecedented for the government to use the honor system in situations in which it collects data on millions of individuals, said Timothy S. Jost, a law professor at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., and a consumer advocate. For example, people are expected to report their cash tips to the Internal Revenue Service as income.

“An awful lot of the economy is a cash economy,” he said. “If we had to verify every statement that was made to the IRS, our economy would collapse.”

When you combine this with the delay in the employer mandate, won’t that make it rather hard to enforce anything to do with the implementation of this program? That’s the question that Avik Roy is asking at Forbes.

It is not even a matter of passing the bill to find out what’s in it. Obama continues to rewrite the bill via executive orders so it doesn’t much matter what’s in it.

A stronger verification means access to your bank account. It is mandatory that seniors get their SS check electronically.

Why do you think they are making it mandatory that all 1040's be field electronically? Pretty soon, you will only get paid electronically and all purchases will have to be electronic.

“If we had to verify every statement that was made to the IRS, our economy would collapse.”

And that, right there, is how the Left plays its favorites: If you're a left-leaning institution, you get a pass, the IRS will believe you and not audit you. A right-leaning group/company, especially one making things hard for the Left? Squadrons of pencil-pushing liberal investigators will descend upon you, bent on finding something, anything they can nail you with.

Such is how governments are corrupted.

An article I read several years back stated that the IRS assumes “everyone cheats” — so a percentage of cheating is worked into the tax code to cover it.

If true — and I have no reason to doubt it is — then there is no so-called honor system.

Funny how that ties right into some things which were predicted app 2000 years ago.

Why don’t they just deem it to have not passed?

This reminds me of the day back in 1987 that 7 million children disappeared. It was the April 15th when the IRS first required that social security numbers be provided for any children who were being claimed as deductions. Prior to that, the IRS took your word that you had a kid.

I imagine that this will work out just as well.
