NRSC fundraiser fuels speculation of Senate bid for Daines in Montana

National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Vice Chairman Rob Portman (Ohio) will headline a Capitol Hill fundraiser this month for Rep. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), according to an invitation for the event obtained by The Hill.

The event is the latest sign that Daines is seriously considering a run for the Senate — and that national Republicans are hoping he'll mount a campaign.

Daines has been giving the race serious consideration ever since Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) announced his retirement in late April, and Montana Republicans say they see him as their most likely standard-bearer for the seat.

The freshman lawmaker has picked up his fundraising pace significantly since Baucus’s announcement.

Daines raised $430,000 in the last three months, a big jump from the $250,000 he brought in during the first three months of the year. Those are impressive numbers for a House member representing a safe seat — and an indication that he’s readying a possible Senate bid.

I hope that Daines runs. He has to wait a while before announcing, so that he doesn’t look too opportunistic (like Rick Berg of ND looked last year).

A Democratic polling firm shows Daines running even with ex-Governor Brian Schweitzer, better than I had expected.

Seriously? That is very surprising. I would have speculated Racicot was the only one with a hope in hell against Schweitzer. Good news. His involvement with RINO Portman is suspicious though. Then again, the man is still VP of that committee.

Max Baucus was the key vote in committee to send Obamacare to floor of the Senate. He feared voting for it until the TRAITOROUS OLYMPIA SNOWE (former Senator from Maine) voted for it too. This gave Baucus the cover he needed. It went to the floor and the rest is history.

Baucus and Snowe—connected in infamy forever. There is no such thing as a conservative RAT and there is no such thing as a RINO with integrity.

The AG Tim Fox also polled well.

We need a first tier candidate there, I don’t think a 2nd tier would have a chance against Schweitzer.

That sellout PORTMAN is Vice Chair of the NRSC? ::puke::

Of course, given their history of backing RINOs, I suppose it's oddly appropriate.

Racicot hasn’t run a race since 1996. He’s also not a Conservative.

The clueless R’s in Montana need to fund a Green Party candidate to offset the Libertarian candidate the D’s will fund, just like they did in 2012 to steal the Governorship and Senate seat.
