Ruger announced today that it plans to open its third manufacturing plant in Mayodan, North Carolina. This will be the Companys first major expansion in over 25 years and it is expected to be finalized in August.
Ruger is one of the countrys largest gun manufacturers and they plan on getting quite a bit larger. The company is officially announcing their intentions to add a sizable new plant in North Carolina.
According to a press release, Ruger is likely to publicize more details about the expansion next month when they have all their contractual loose ends tied up. Ruger will be moving into a Mayodan industrial complex that previously housed a yarn plant. It has 194,950 square feet of manufacturing space and 26,650 square feet for administration.
The company already operates in several states across the nation, including Enfield, Connecticut, Newport, New Hampshire, and Prescott, Arizona.
The facility is expected to bring several hundred jobs, and because its an expansion, not a relocation like so many other companies have recently done, these jobs will be completely open to the local community.
They told us it could be about a hundred jobs right off the bat and maybe more later, said Darrell Freeman to Rockingham Now. Thats an exciting possibility for us after losing so many manufacturing jobs the last few years.
Ruger is already conducting interviews with potential employees from the area.
Siblings Anna Johnson and Tony Robertson applied for jobs together.
Weve both been out of work for a while and have each others support system, said Johnson. I couldnt think of a better brother-sister outing right now than to both be coming up here to interview with a company thinking about bringing a lot of new jobs to the area.

Question is this: What are they planning to manufacture there? Weapons or swag?
I can remember many years ago, Skeeter Skelton mentioned that Bill Ruger and his Son stopped by and visited him on their way to Arizona.
Skelton said they were on an expedition looking for arrow heads.
What I suspect is they were scouting a new location in AZ and sure enough they opened a factory there.
Good news for North Carolina, not so good for Connecticut.
At least CT will be relieved of any OT work to keep up with orders. Maybe one day the CT plant can be shut down.
How come we never hear of the risk-adverse ammo companies building new plants from the ground up?
Mayodan, NC is about 10-15 miles south of the VA state line on US 220.
Boy, we sure could of used those jobs about 30 miles north of there. Martinsville & Henry County, VA has about the worst unemployment in VA.
Doesn’t Remington Arms have a manufacturing plant near Mayodan, NC?
Personally, I find it a little surprising that they didn’t open in Texas or Montana; someplace with more welcoming political policies.
Anyone from North Carolia care to comment on firearms policy in the state?
